The BOV doesn't give me too much trouble. Its the throttle body to crossover join that I don't like.

Macka, I know many people that have had servicing done at c-red...and they repeatedly go there.  None of them have been charged $500 for a service.

$150 ish (more than likely less) would be around the price

No im sure alot of ppl do get their services done at a performance shop....gives them piece of mind that something is done properly.

That price i pulled out of my ass if u hadnt noticed, of course its not going to be that much. Twas just an example.

Dont forget Air filter check.

Timing check.

Belts check and adjust.

hhmm.....then theres brake wear check

Clutch adjustment check

No worries Macka - just wanted to clarify to those out there who didn't know that you were pulling a figure out of your a$$ that C-Red do not charge $500 for a service.

Hell, if any workshop charged that for a regular service, I would be walking out the door and never returning again!

Is there anyone on here who will recommend somewhere other than c-red? Personal experience tells me some places cause too much hassle and agro.

I'm looking for somewhere to do a major service on my R33. As in cam belt and a general check of everything - including diff. Any takers?

And before you mention back yard - I have little spare time, the time I do have I want to spend driving my toy hard - I just want somewhere that is reliable, tells the truth and is easy to deal with..

Yeah i have no idea what they charge but im sure they (and others) charge alot because of the cars they are dealing with and basically its a performance car so u can pay the performance price.

There are a few guys on here who know R33s and 32s for that matter :( back to front and Im sure ppl dont need to take their cars to a performance workshop just to get their service done.

Its not a dynotune. :P

caminperth - everyone had their variating differences in who they recommend servicing and tuning their car. Ive tried a couple of different places thru the time ive had the ZX and Skyline and the guy that currently services my skyline is the one thats probably standed out the most. West Racing Motor Development - i know a lot people think he's a trev round here and probably right but he still knows his stuff when it comes to imports ive seen a couple of Lines he's worked on and they have really impressed me even gets sent up to Jakata to specially tune a GTR. He always has time to make sure im fully up to date and whats happening with the car and ive found him to be very thorough in what he does. Also uses only redline oils etc if your a redline fan ;)

First off Macka you can get f**ked :P You'll be the first person I charge 500 bucks for an oil change for sprouting crap like that.

Nothing wrong with Ryco filters, but some of the Genuine Nissan elements were getting made in Thailand hence they are cheap, make of that what you will. We generally use Nippon Micro Oil Filters (As do SST and Per4manz; Nippon Micro make the Japanese OEM Nissan Elements) at around 7 bucks a pop. We generally use Pennzoil 10W-40 Semi Synth at around 30 bucks a tub. A normal oil change is 120-130 but included in that is a full inspection and report and we generally fix up any little issues that you might have. Full services range in price depending on what you want changed and whether it includes a cam belt or not.

Cheap (Read Non Platinum) Plugs will cause any late Nissan motor to run like crap so you are best of coughing up for Iridiums safe in the knowledge they will last and run properly.

Jash

PS When are we going to see your tidy ass in the shop again Nizmo? :D

haha jash last time i rang i either thought you are majorly stressed or i just got a brush off - when u didnt ring back i thought yep brush off and went elsewhere. Sooo ill be back there when you make it worth my tidy arse while :P

We've got a new workshop line and a dedicated Customer Service Wench - Greg. He's very particular and would love to hear from you. The number is 9356 3000. He's very keen to look after you, as am I :P

How do we get our hands on Nippon Micro oil filters? Through a specific Nissan service dept?

    • Welp, good to know. Will have to wait awhile until steady hands with drills and taps are available. In other news, these just arrived! I will weigh them for posterity.
    • 100% the factory sender is tapered, that is how it seals (well, that and teflon paste or tape)
    • Thanks folks - I've saved a few links and I'll have to think of potential cable/adapters/buying fittings. First step will be seeing if I can turn the curren abortion of a port into something usable, then get all BSPT'y on it. I did attempt to look at the OEM sender male end to see if it IS tapered because as mentioned you should be able to tell by looking at it... well, I don't know if I can. If I had to guess it looks like *maybe* 0.25 of a mm skinnier at the bottom of the thread compared to where the thread starts. So if it is tapered it's pretty slight - Or all the examples of BSPT vs BSPP are exaggerated for effect in their taper size.
    • Have a look at that (shitty) pic I posted. You can see AN -4 braided line coming to a -4 to 1/8 BSPT adapter, into a 1/8 BSPT T piece. The Haltech pressure sender is screwed into the long arm of the sender and factory sender (pre your pic) into the T side. You can also see the cable tie holding the whole contraption in place. Is it better than mounting the sender direct to your engine fitting......yes because it removes that vibration as the engine revs out 50 times every lap and that factory sender is pretty big. Is it necessary for you......well I've got no idea, I just don't like something important failing twice so over-engineer it to the moon!
    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
