Yeah poor toni was just a lil stressed when she finally arrived on friday night... But that little rb26 girl there destressed her real fast..

As for that 'mini me' promo girl (kid) that was the most disgusting thing i've ever seen...she didn't look more than about 7 or 8...

Auto Salon is dying, we all know that, we all saw it on the weekend, but why?

Well, lets have a look at the CABIN group to find out why.

CABIN could not give two %#%$'s about cars. They care about one thing. Exploiting teenagers to get financial gain.

It was probably 2 years ago that Auto Salon peaked in Melbourne. The crowds, traders, cars and babes were plentiful and accessible.

But in those two years, CABIN has made it go all horribly wrong and not lead the pack as it like to think, infact it has divided the pack.

The divide sees the "elite" cars, the OSMAN"S wrx, the MCBETH Magna, the big dollar show cars into one section and the honest working class cars in the other section. Unfortunately these elite cars win most of the big awards time and time again, eliminating the desire of the honest joe to build a decent street car with a budget.

So, with that in mind when you decide to attend the event, you car be sure of a few things, the increased entry fee for spectators, entrants, clubs and traders. ( yet the mecc does not charge more), and the appearance of what is now to be called teenage hoe bags.

- Just as a side note, the young girl in promo girl is not a first, last year a commodore entrant under a multiclor tent had a young boy dressed a "genie" walking through the crowd on his own, The boy was apporximately 8-10 yrs, pants, no shirt and a genie hat. The boy and his parents were "escorted from the premises". It was sickening to see.

Auto Salon used to have some sort of standards, whether it be for the cas or the promo staff, in fact for the girls they all used to be over 18 ( it was a condition of entry as a promotional person), this was changed a little while ago and as a friend (professional photographer) has told me, has left him with images of an event that he cannot use, sell, or distribute and is essentially a waste of time.

Anyway, a little off topic, but lets have a look at the mechanics of the show, you pay, your car sits there, it is critisized by 15yr olds with no brains, it is touched (possibly damaged) by people with no respect for anything, and has been the trend in sydney anyway is stolen after the event.

It never ceases to amaze me after 10 years of car shows that the "backyard expert" still knows nothing about everything. ( oh and they get charged for the sms to vote for your car they nothing about)

Where is the motivation for the entrant to endure this type of treatment? there is none.

So, where is the show scene going to now?

Honestly, and this is only my beleif, it is going to on track events, drags drifting etc, you only need to look at the success of powercruise, easternats, gazzanats, targa etc to see there has been a shift away from the cabin money making machine back to the real driving and real pleasure and pride people have in thier cars.

So am i sarcastic? possibly, but let auto salon close down, let that other melbourne import show "show off' close down, both are dead events and really no on e cares anymore.

Perhaps SAU should put in some money and make its own on track national event series.

My 2cents.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
