Hi all,

Been reading alot about this forum, only got a chance to register now.

Sorry to ask questions in my first post but I'm running out of ideas. Here's my problem. I took the cam sensor (the thing on the cam gears cover) out to check my timing belt then put it back ( I think I turned a few turns of the thing-stupid me) the car wouldnt want to start, no matter how I adjusted it it just won't start. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks heaps...

Did you move the timing belt at all?

If you didn't the cam sensor has a half moon thing inside the gear that goes into the cam. Make sure its in position and on properly. Adjust to the former position and make sure the cam wiring is in place.

If it dosen't start, try using a timing light to see if your out.

I didn't move the timing belt at all. I've just found out that the half moon key on the cam was broken thats why I can slide the sensor in more than one way. How the hell am i gonna get it right? I've tried many angle but it wont start still. I'm thinking of getting another exhaust cam. Any idea how much the stock exhaust cam is going for?

There is a way to do this but will take some time. I can think of 2 ways atm:

1. unbolt the CAS so it can freely move clockwise & anti-clockwise. Get some to crank the car and keep moving it clockwise until it wants to start and if not anti clockwise. If it hasen't started note how much you were able to move the CAS and re-position the CAS in the cam and try again. If you find the point where she starts, move the CAS from the cam until you are able to bolt it up and have some movment.

2. Use a timing light while cranking and see if the marks show up. If not, not the CAS from the crank until the marks up, means your geting very close. This method can also aid the above method.

Just a note, when engine is at TDC (top dead centre) while removing the CAS from the cam, there is a geogon pin that goes through the shaft of the CAS. This pin should be facing directly up or down - one of them will be right. This is good as a starting reference.

Its a bit of messing around but a little time & you'll get it.

There might be a better method, this is just what I have done before.

Firstly, visualise where the CAS needs to be to align if the half-moon key was still attached to the cam.

Alternately, the CAS also aligns via a set of teeth on the CAS shaft and the cam, and the engine will only start with the CAS in one position. Simply move the CAS shaft by one tooth and try to start the engine. Once the engine starts, use a timing light to set the timing correctly.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
