I'm not trying to sound like a snob or offend anyone it's just a reality for me to succeed.

A reality for you to succeed?

Firstly, i think you should get your hand off it mate and i don't mean the gear stick. You want to buy a certain type of car because of what others will think of you - are you serious?

Secondly, grow some balls and buy whateva puts a smile on your face.

Personally i'd buy a 68 Monaro and drop a Chev 427 small-block for my next ride.

MMmmmm.. im 31 now, being driving performance car more then 10 yrs now and being changing alot of cars. At this moment driving a wrex, this is a 3rd rex i have now so far (94, 02 then jump back to 99 model shape)... I being driving to many turbo car, i think i like the evo more then wrex, even GTR34 and for drifting i will go for series 2 200SX or Toyota Sprinter. This yr my next car will be in July or August, i still dunt know wat to choose yet, either 02 STI, Evo 6.5, Vpec 33 96-98 model or Rx7 series 6 or 7. So far alot of my friend tell me get Evo, very interesting but still havent found one yet in PERTH the one i like. Since im 31 now i dunt my have one luxury car as BMW E46 4 doors as family car and the other one performance car only for weekends cruising with the groups :D

I take your point. Of the cars in my price range I would be buying probably number 3 or 4 of my top 10 so I would still be quite happy.

It's partly about what people think but also my preference as well. In my circumstances I have clients with $50 million plus so a car that those people will either respect or be neutral to will be helpful. It sounds like a bit of a wank but my preference is to go well in my job than have a car with super, braking, acceleration or cornering etc.

Also, I think the V35 Skyline Coupe is a good compromise and probably would put a smile on my face. The C200 Merc would be a comfortable cruiser.

I like your idea of a 68 Monary with a 427. Just amazing engines. 7 litres of power. How much power would you be looking at?

early 90's model Beema 7 or 8 series. Wich ever had the v12. Add a couple of GT30's and your sweet for any occasion :D

sounds nice, big hp numbers, just need to spend another 4k on internals, another 6 on bolt ons and i use the term loosely and you can make 1500hp... respectable, hmmm whats she look like>?

if i was going to chase some cubes, merc styling and most importantly merc suspension, sounds the goods

nick name her panzer or king tiger, aka tiger 2, or .... leapard cuase it would be about as reliable as the famed winter special.

f**k im going to look up a early 90's v12 merc, hmmm proly stil cost over 30k,

Last-model-made, S15, and widebody it, then drop in an R34 RB26DETT, then after that project, an R34 GTR, and as a project on the side, drop and R32/33 RB26dett into a nicely refurbished 240z...:O - nice to be rolling in money ai :)

Smurf, i know my previous comment seems rough. I totally understand the need to present a professional image when it's due. But this is Australia and buying something you do not completely want simply to impress others is the wrong attitude - especially something as expensive as a car.

If you can only accommodate owning one car and you have to drive around clients, then yes you should consider a 4 door for practical reasons.

If your 50 million dollar clients are judging you on what car you drive then they have issues of their own - you should not let their prejudice or small penis size effect your life. You're not doing donuts or burnouts in the car park before meetings are you? :teehee:

In the end you have to live with it.

Anyone want to buy my R33 so i can get my next car :D

Not 100% sure what i am doing for my next car yet. Im selling my car as im getting into real estate and will eventually need a 4 door to take clients around. How ever i am starting off with a traineeship so i have a year or 2 still untill i need one and for now i get given a company car for work and out of work for that matter to.

So i have been toying around with the idea of building up another S13 with a RB20 in it again and wouldnt mind trying out some drifting at the track. And still have the rest of the money left over put aside for later when i need another car.

Would love an R34GTT or S15 but at the moment they are both out of my price range :( One day ill get my R34 Z-TUNE haha :D

im 18 and own a r33 gtst and love it!! however im 8000 dollars in debt and obviously with the ever so quickley increasing petrol prices im considereing getting a integra vtir! is that a good move? it still has power but is lighter on petrol!

I have a VTi-R. COsts me about 50 bucks to fill, get 450 kms from a tank vtecing everywhere.

Drives quite nicely, has enough power to taunt V6 commodores and falcons, even BA falcons.

Handles like a dream, can throw it into any corner at any speed and no worries. Every now and then you can get lift off from the rear if the road is a bit bumpy under brakes

I just wanted something a little sedate and nice until I finished uni and got a real job.

Just got 17's and a kit on it at the moment. And stock engine etc.

I wanted an Aus delivered car just for reliability while money was a bit tight. As soon as I find a decent job, I'll be giving the VTi-R to the GF and getting an R32 GTR and restoring it. Just for the weekends, and hopefully get a company car at some stage soon.

Uni's almost over for me.

already started the next project ;) 1985 bmw e30 320, with sr20det, upgraded diff, and the usual mods exhaust and cooler and completely stripped interior. shoudl be fun :woot: sold all the skylines might purchase one in the next couple of years got a nice n neat n good on fuel! ford laser tx3 for 800 bucks ,mwahahahaha

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
