To do a GOOD job requires the car to be stripped, ie all windows out , wheels off , door trims off and if you are doing a full colour change properly then engine out and engine bay stripped.

If they aren't charging 6K for that , then they are too cheap and you get what you pay for.

Colour changing a car is a good way to spend a lot of money devaluing the car.

When the time comes to sell , most people prefer the unmolested , unsprayed original colour. Colour change to me denotes something slightly amiss and I price accordingly.

Get a quality 3 stage type polish , Mothers is my personal favourite but Mequiars is good.

Allow about 6 hrs and a lot of effort and follow the instructions ( ie. not in the sun , small amount at a time , allow to dry etc ) using all three stages including finishing with the carnuaba wax.

The results are usually stunning.

Cheers

Ken

too tell you the truth - i know black cars are a pain in the butt - i own two and my mum also owns one ( which has different paint speckles on it because my parents have a powdercoating business) - but getting maybe a professional buff done and a touch up on those scraches would be the way to go. Why buy a black car if you werent prepared for these things to show up anyway? If you have the money for a new paint job go for it - but i do agree with ken - as far as onselling the car goes keep the original paint.

Ive had the occasional touch ups on my car and it maybe the guy i use i dont know but it always blends with the car and it looks like new.

yeah mate i have a black 'line myself and its a b!tch to keep clean though on the few rare occasions that it is, it looks like a million bucks, well maybe $24,990 at least :)

anyone know a guy that can restore car paint to its original shine or at least give it a good polish? maybe can give that a go first before painting the car.

Throghout the days when my car is an everyday driver it loooks like a piece of poo, water marks and leaves and dust cake up on it in a few hours after a wash! i have the dark red colour maybe not as bad as black but everything marks on the paint. if i don't wipe every bit of water off after a wash water stains are everywhere!!!

So before each show i have a friend who works for a detailing company who comes round my house and does a friendly deal for me as a cash job on the weekends. The paint comes up fantastic after cut buff polish like brand new! he really does fantastic job as some might have seen at shows.

I will ask if he can do a few personal jobs for people. at work he charges $300 as they are one of the highest quality detailers in WA. does porsches GT2 & GT3's alf barbagelos cars!

But for me normally about $65.... for everything besides shampoo of seats and stuff. put interior does get done nicely aswell :-)

a quick wash every 3 days does mine then once a week i use Mcquires beeswax on it and it comes up mint. With a black car you will always see swirls etc in the paint work the trick is to get a lot of wax built up on it so looking into the paint is like looking into a deep pond. i set a program eg was bonnet and roof one week doors the next etc etc

Thats nice price. I too have a black r33, not my choice of colour but when I was importing this one came up and was what I wanted in every way but colour so I took it anyway. I desperately need a good cut and polish (dont need the interior stuff, I do that myself) but I've never done a cut and polish myself and I'd rather get a pro to do it with a black finish (heard some bad stories of people doing their own black car).

Has anyone used that Bikiniwash mob? I was thinking of getting them to do my car and a friends as a Bucks day stunt - you know, girls not wearing much in front of a bunch of pissed seedy guys? hehe..

Good/Bad reports welcome. Don't want my car's paint to be ruined just for a laugh for the boys...

One would have to think that first they are pretty woman / models / strippers /out of work uni students and professional car detailers who know what they are doing with your paint a loooooooooooooong way second.

Ken

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
