depends on what u want to use it for really decides what you should use

give you an example...the bresiani (spelling) could not break or come close to the record with a lightened (4.Xkg flywheel) whereas when jim sent him back a stock one, he ran the record and broke it by a fair bit. thats because he couldnt get it off the line and was having trouble holding boost, boost was dropping of between gears etc.

also, jim and dan have seen more warped lightened flywheels than stocko's so that also say somthing for them.

jim recommends that if the car is for out and out track racing, go for a very light flywheel (4.Xkg) thats because u want excellent throttle control mid corner, out of the corner etc, also u dont have the factor of dropping off boost because the revs are always high, also lightens the drivetrain up...drags he says to use a stock weight or slightly thinned stock flywheel, for the reasons like the bresciani example

theres more, but that's all i remember for now

Yes tell all, I didnt realise what a monster you are building Shane, what sort of use are you planning for?

didnt you terry? well now u do ;)

i'm not entirely sure yet, at first i was all for a track spec car, but now i'm leaning towards drag spec because there is actually prize money on offer. basically i'll have to make up my mind before i get the new turbo & suspension setup. for now i've got a set of R34 v-spec turbo's, and i'll do a fair bit of drag and circuit work to help me decide.

Yep makes sense

Hmm I wonder waht the flywheel in that assembly I got weighs? I know the whole thing is 16kg

see you wouldnt have that drama if you had a single plate, because i think u'll find u cant change the flywheel caus its "all in one", if you know what i mean

16kg's, i'd say it's a light one, my guess would be between 4-6kg's?

yeah I reckon 6 or so...cause the cover isnt that heavy...but the carriers and plates look pretty heavy!

Thats all good but because my car wasnt built for straight lines ;)

yeh nice, should suit you down to a tee ;)

that's another thing i remember jim saying what was wrong with the twins, the cover on some of them is very thin and they heat up very quickly and that inturn induces premature clutch slippage, he did mention brands, but i just can't remember

Ahhh I see!

Well the 320atwkw GTR couldnt slip mine so I hope I am ok

Mine is pressed steel, But I imagine alot ot he alloy ones youe heat up heaps!

Actually the Os website mentions that! Thiers has some sort of ventilations system that not all have

Yeah something like that, and over kill :D

Did you just get a single plate shane? Thats what I have he seemed to think it should hold 800fly wheel hp fairly easy. If you got the same sort of thing it should do yours easy :O

it'll definately hold the power ill have now, but it'll be pushed when i get the new turbos :O

my neighbours who have moved in like 2 months ago, one owns a 33gtst, and the other owns a soarer lol full import city in my street now! lol we own the block!

    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
