Rang Shannons today for a quote on my r34, they won't even give me a price because I'm not enthausiastic enough.

Girl was like you don't race and you haven't modified anything, come back in 12 months when you care about your car.

It's still on the boat so of course it has no mods yet :)

Just cars willing to give me $929 a year. With a $1300 excess if I crash and $1000 if it's stolen.

Thats $25k insured and 23 with no previous accident/criminal history.

^^ I'd be pretty insulted by that.. if you weren't an enthusiast you wouldn't be buying a Skyline would you..

Where abouts do you live btw daniel.. i'm guessing it's not sydney with that quote

Im glad noone here has had the same experance with Famous Insurance that i have.

Lets begin the story...

Frist of all im 20 living in sydney driving a 1990 GTR.

- On the 5/08/2005 called Robyn Clements got a quote for $3500 + 10% for pay by the month. This was cheeper than just car so i went for it.

- Robyn took my account number over the phone to direct debit my account. ( Would have given her someones account number that i hated if i knew what was going to happen next)

- 8/08/2005 My account is debited $770 with no authority. I had filled out no direct debit form and i hadent read or recieved the policy yet.

- 10/08/2005 I acctually recieve the pollicy and read the fine print. ( bullshit like , In the event of a single vehicle accident a report must be made to the police and a blood or brethtest or alcohol must be conducted with in 2 hours.)

- That night i call just car and get a quote for $2900, with a better pollicy and excess.

- Then i realise that they have already debited my acount, so according to them they need it in writting.

-11/08/2005 I send an express post letter cancelling my pollicy....

-12/08/2005 I call and they have recieved the letter and robyn tells me it will be cancled straight away.

- I then call and check every day and each time they assure me its going to be cancled and my money returned.

- 25/08/2005 $385 is debited from my account.... WTF. I call and the pollicy still hasent been closed.

- I then spend the next week trying to speek to the guy thats incharge of cancelations. After being put on hold for 30min on mre than one occasion and being hung up on and told his on lunch (for over 2 hours) i finally speek to him. He was extreamly rude and tells me it will be done.

- Now its september and still nothing. I manage to call and get onto the boss Jerry or whatever his hame is. Finally he writes me a check and its all solved.

-I get the check for $326.04.... after fees thats what was left of the 770, no sign of the 385 that was taken a month later.

Im currently fighting a legal battle to get my money back as they never should have taken anymoney from my acount and the contract should have never even started.

Famous are unprofessional and semingly commit fruad on a daily basis, I can't recomend more that you stay away from them. I sure as hell wont ever have anything to do with them ever again.

i need help. 17 year old red p living in sydney with spotless driving record. looking into buying a 1998 series 2 mspec r33 and need reliable but cheap insurance. just cars quoted me 3.5k and i think thats a little absurb seeing as how in 4 years i can buy another car. is anyone in here in the same situation as i am and could offer some advice (<---that was really fobby). would be much appreciated. thanks

Hey guys im 20 and live in Perth and want to know who else insures 20 year olds. Here are the ones I've called so far Shannons, RAC, Just Car and Famous. Just car and and Famous are the only ones I know of who insure 20 year olds. Can anyone give me a list of other insurance companies i can try? This would be greatly appreciated.

Just got off the phone to Just Cars:

20y/o

1993 R33 GTS25t

Minimal mods(rear cannon, $800 stereo,etc...)

Remote start immobilizer

DBA 5000 series rotors

2 speeding tickets

Just wrote off a bike

Window tint

Been licenced 2 years

Agreed value $17,500

Rating 4 (30% discount)

Anyway, FULL COMP: $1691 premium, $1100 excess for fire/theft and missus driving, $1500 if i crash it at fault and free if i show the bastard who crashed into it!

Can't get much better than that!!!

Once upon a time:

Its time for me to renew my insurance

im 24 with maximum NCB i live in a high "risk suburb" (SYDNEY),

r33 GTS T s2 -

Mods/extras

*Exhaust

*Cooler

*sound system

* Mags

*Pod Filter and a few little extra's

Quotes:

Just cars:

Agreed value $22,400

Premium $1635

excess $2000

Famous

Agreed value $24000

excess $2000

Premium $1730

now the agreed value is around $1600 more then just cars. I have rang just cars and advise of mods but they cant put the value higher.

i think for that extra $1600 its not worth the risk, i am very happy with the service just cars provide all the time very professional which is completely different to famous. Getting a quote took me so long and i still have not heard anything from them since i have applied online to get a exact figure. (Account details were not provided). I think there’s only one person at famous dealing with customers enquires and if they are on lunch or on call you have to wait i left details but they didn’t get back to me. And reading about all these little minor disclaimers with famous i think ill just renew with just cars.

Conclusion: Dont just change insurance companies because the other is cheaper. Investigate.

Hey i just rang up just cars and got quoted on a R32 GTR 1994 model, I'm 18 in 2 days and with a 30% NCB (Parents are insured with AAMI), no previous insurance, no accident hist.

Premium while i am 17 is: $4300 (20% NCB)

once i turn 18 it is only $3756 (30% NCB) (IM SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P:(:D)

Excess: $2000

Agreed Value $22,500 ;)

Ahhh Just Cars is the way to go i havn't got a quote from any other companies because the fact that soo many people are having problems with them, some people are only complaining about Just Cars because of the price, they have not had any bad feedback on them have they!?!?

Make a smart choice, make the right choice, just go, Just Cars ;)

i doubt u will find too many others that will insure u with a grey import. for people in your position or similiar, Just Cars are the only choice. Modify it and try and insure it for $50K, i doubt they will be able to help you there.

Different insurance companies cater to different needs....

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
