I got my renewal quote from just car and I really hate them now. They have decreased the value by $1500 but the amount I pay is only about $250 less so it is still around $2500.

I just called Shannons and they can't insure me because I'm not old enough. Basically I just need insurance that is under $2500 and can pay by the month but the problem is because I'm 20 all the good companies are not an option.

Does anyone know any other insurance companies I can try?

you just gotta suck it in and take it up the ass, im paying $3k for my 32 Gts-t, 18 with 1 licence loss and 1 at fault claim. just car are only company that would come any where near me

Anyone else have trouble getting shannons to even give you a quote?

I've rung twice now and gotten different people.

First guy said just go to justcars, shannons wouldn't even come close in price.

Second guy said they don't insure that type of car unless it's in a locked garage.

They must ahve changed their policies or something because last year I got quoted 1.1k for my r34 with them :P

Just cars is really cheap at $940 but damn their excess kills you.

So you lied and/or changed your story?

wouldnt that come under "duty of disclosure?"

Said exactly the same thing, the first two calls were old guy that straight out said I was going to drift it and crash it and they werent interested. The last guy was younger and said yeah sure we can insure you, it was out of my price range however and I went with 3rd party F&T through Just Cars.

Funnily enough if It get stolen and I get the $5k payout from Just Cars and pay the excess I will still get more then if it was fully insured through Shannons.

If he did change his story, then yes it would be, if he was intentially withholding or providing false information.

But if he said the same thing and merely had underwriters interepret criteria differently then so be it. Always worth giving it a few goes.

I've recently joined SAU, and the info that you guys give has changed my perspective on alot of things. Thankx guys. I've contacted almost every insurance Co worth contacting, and the answer was either we won’t touch you, or they were outrageously expensive. Young & Cool were about $1900-pa, Just Car was $1300-, and the excesses were extremely high. I contacted Unique Car Insurance, and I got quoted $830- with unlimited "roadworthy" mods. So to recommend, I choose Unique Car, they don't do pay by the month, but you can pay every 3, 6 or 12 months, not ideal but better than nothing. But shop around, that's the only way to get a good deal. And always remember to read the fine print, know what you are getting your self in for before you sign.

Good work ringing around and getting the best price you could, while taking many other factors into account. Shows how much it varies and how important it is to shop around, keeps the market on its toes, stops the giants from winning business based almost exclusively on brand recognition through mass advertising.

Did you try Ryno Insurance (www.rynoinsurance.com.au)?

They were the most competitive for me and a lot of my friends. Great benefits for service and policy too.

Unique did appear to offer great terms though.

Ryno Insurance? That looks like the old Just Insurance website, what happened there??

Yeah weird huh, a change of name. Not sure why. It was very close to Just Car Insurance, perhaps something to do with it? I might ask one of them why next time I have to speak to them.

Thankx heaps for the advice, I got a good deal through Ryno. Now I can enjoy the drive and not battle with all this insurance crap for a while. Good learning experience though. :)

I did an online quote through Ryno over a week ago and they only just got back to me today saying they can't insure me. No idea why but that sucks.

I have ended up going with Famous and it is costing me so much, I paid for 2 months upfront and it was almost $550

Shannons just did me for 92 a month and 20k value, abobroad minded persone legends!!!

No more cash for just cars hahaha no more worries of cheap repairs either :(

today was updating my policy, had to add window tinting and a 1k stereo. policy was $2980 and i did a online quote before i called so i had some idea, online raised my agreed value by 1k and got me the new bits covered for an extra $3, over phone they wanted to charge me more than that and werent going to touch the agreed value, so i threatened to cancel my policy and do the new one, she switched them over there and then and waved the extra $3 goodbye

moral of the story, make sure you do your homework !

    • OK, Step 3, if you need to remove the valve body, either to replace it, the TCM, or to do a more complete drain.  First, you need to disconnect the TCM input wires, they are about half way up the transmission on the drivers side. One plug and the wires are out of the way, but there is also a spring clip that stops the socket from sliding back into the transmission. On my car the spring clip was easy to get, but the socket was really stuck in the o-ring of the transmission housing and took some.....persuasion. You can see both the plug to remove (first) and the spring clip (second) in this pic Incidentally, right next to the plug, you can see where the casting has allowance for a dispstick/filler which Nissan decided not to provide. there is a cap held on with a 6mm head bolt that you can remove to overfill it (AMS recommend a 1.5l overfill). Final step before the big mess, remove the speed sensor that is clipped to the valve body at the rear of the box.  Then removal of the Valve Body. For this the USDM Q50 workshop manual has a critical diagram: There are a billion bolts visible. Almost all of them do not need to be removed, just the 14 shown on the diagram. Even so, I both removed one extra, and didn't check which length bolt came from which location (more on that later....). Again it is worth undoing the 4 corners first, but leaving them a couple of turns in to hold the unit up....gravity is not your friend here and trans oil will be going everywhere. Once the corners are loose but still in remove all the other 10 bolts, then hold the valve body up with 1 hand while removing the final 4. Then, everything just comes free easily, or like in my case you start swearing because that plug is stuck in the casing. Done, the valve body and TCM are out
    • OK, so if you are either going for the bigger fluid change or are changing the valve body which includes the Transmission Control Module (TCM), first you should have both a new gasket 31397-1XJ0A and a torque wrench that can work down to 8Nm (very low, probably a 1/4 drive one). You can probably get by without either, but I really didn't want to pull it all apart together due to a leak. First, you now need that big oil pan. The transmission pan is 450 long x 350 wide, and it will probably leak on all sides, so get ready for a mess. There are 24x 6mm headed bolts holding the pan on. I undid the 2 rear corners, then screwed those bolts back in a couple of turns to let the pan go low at that end, then removed all the middle bolts on each side. Then, undo the front corner bolts slowly while holding the pan up, and 80% of the fluid will head out the rear. From there, remove the remaining bolts and the pan is off. You can see it is still dripping oil absolutely everywhere...it dripped all night.... I got another couple of litres when I removed the pan, and then another few when I removed the valve body - all up another 4l on top of the 3 already dropped in step 1.
    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
