hey just got the car and its already showing all the common symptons skylines have

1. driving for a while and when going at low speed the whole engine just cuts off and hicas lights turn on aswell as the other red lights. steering wheel loses power steering. have to stop and start engine again to make it go away. ive read threads of same problem but can't find a general solution?

2. Left light doesn't turn on till i accelerate sometimes

3. cabin light flickers like a strobe light when i open car door sometimes.

4. one of the red lights in the dash flicker on for a micro sec when i'm turning. dunno which one but ill find out tomolo.

and i got some general questions.

the oil pressue guage i assume (the one on the lower right of the dash), what is the normal value it should be at? and what does oil pressure mean? what happens if it is low or high?

i opened up the boot to look for hicas and i find the battery and some kinda white translucent plastic box with all these wires coming out of it and next to that stuck on the parcel shelf is a metal box. is that the hicas? and is there sposed to be jus one metal box?

where can i find the ecu? i read you can pull it out and it shows a lil led display which you can set certain values?

and how long does it take to reset ecu? unclip the battery at the back right? and then press on the brake lights till it diminishes? and then connect it all back up and start her up and give her a good run?

sorry about all the questions guys. i'm jus curious after reading this forum for so long and just want to get full use of my beloved skyline.

hehe thanks

:burnout:

yes i do have a blow off valve

all fluids are full up since its been serviced twice

im not sure how to get into the headlights, im not very technical, i dunno mess it up, but my importer did change the right globe back to stock yellow today cos it was blue lol.

NOOOOOO!

Just stopping you from ripping anything out.

The kick panel is the plastic cover on the left hand side wall where your (passenger's) feet stay, just below the glove box. Remove the nut on the far wall and unclip the front of the panel.

I heard this happen in another car (not skyline). Look at your lights (front and back), can you see water trapped inside? This other car had water trapped inside the light and some times when he turned a corner or took off hard the car would stall (steering stiffens, light on dash light up, etc). He would then restart the car and kept on driving. After taking the car to a few mechanics and changing the ecu (for another new facory item) the poblem still occured. Eventually the problem was solved. They found that water was trapped in the tail light cluster, and that when the car turned, the water would rush to one side and shorten the wiring, that caused a spike and shut down the ecu. This may nto be your problem but is worth a mention, i think.

It may also be you idle controll.

The flickering light sounds like the switch is durty and need to be disassembled and cleaned, or replaced. As the contacts inside the switch are not conducting the electricity properly (sorry if that sounded like a physics lecture :P).

Take a GOOD look for water in all your lights. Re-reading your post and the syptoms can definately be caused by a short due to water!! :uh-huh: :uh-huh: :uh-huh:

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
