Best Person/workshop To Work On Gearbox Of Gtr32....

Recommended Posts

Well i'm thinking of getting some work done on the gearbox of my gtr32, maybe putting in OS gears and dropping in new synchros and etc, anyone here can recommend some workshops/mechanics who are good with gearboxes and charge reasonable prices?

By the way, can anyone tell me if it's possible to drop in a GTR34 gearbox into a GTR32 without too much hassle? As in will the clutch need to be changed as well or other parts need to be changed when a GTR34 gearbox goes into a GTR32?

I think I read an article in a recent ZOOM magazine that said it wasn't worth the hassle as the R34 gearbox is no stronger than any of the others. Your probably better off going with plan A and putting tuffer running gear in the box you have now.

No but its a hella lot newer isnt it.

well if your actually after someone to rebuild your gearbox, or at the very least give you advice on its condition.

get hold of gabba gearboxes in ashmore on the goldcoast.

they have been recomended by a few workshops.

I thought they were in Woolloongabba. Do you know if they have moved or do they have multiple locations.

They are quite good and do many of the strong RB box rebuilds out there.

it would appear that there are 2 of them with the same name but it does not appear that they are linked.

i took my last 33 gtst box to them for apull down and inspection on the coast here, but decided to go for a 2nd hand box with a warranty, only trouble is, just outside of 12 months this one has let go as well.

but yes i did think it was strange they were on the coast with a name like gabba gearboxes

I have heard that charlies is getting new R33 GTR boxes for around the $3500 landed...with transfer case etc?? the later getrag R34 GTR box is supposed to be better i thought than the standard GTR box, not to sure...but they are prob as expensive as getting a PPG dog upgrade or an os gearset?? My friend had his PPG dog upgrade installed at charlies and now godzilla MS look after it. I think that Godzilla MS might know somone?

i think that on late model R32's the cluch mechanism changed to be the same as the R33's and R34's (push or pull cant remember) so there is little modification required....if it is an early model R32 then there is some modification required, but i dont think its anything to major.

Cheers,

Francisco

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
