I just got a quote today to fit in a 32. comprised of;

Alpine V12 MRV-F545 - for front and rear speakers

Alpine V12 MRD-M605 - for subs

2 x 12" Alpine Type S subs

and 6" front and rear speakers cant remember the brand or model number but they were roughly $100 more than Alpine Type R's and i was advised they were much better.

The installation would include sound deadening in the doors, parcel shelf and bootlid. 4 guage cable instead of two 8 guages, or the other way round, whatever the better option is lol (im not a huge stereo buff :)) and a box for the two subs. I got told retail it was worht close to $3.9k and he would give it to me for $3k flat.

Does this sound about right for the products(which i know RRP for about $2k, not including the sound deadening and sub box) im getting and the (presumably) quality install ?

Do you really need 2x 12s?

Get a break down of the quote, then you can see how much the sd is costing, and labour, cables etc all that adds up so its probably pretty fair. But if they cant do that for you start asking some more questions. Such as why.

Yup what daveo said above..

Why not just use one type R sub instead??

Actually isnt your boot space small?? Just one quailty 10inch sub.. Dont think a 10inch sub has no punch. If you buy quailty gear you will be amazed.

But apart from all that, sounds ok to me i guess. BUt wow you spending 3k just like that??

Do it in stages over some months, so see the difference in the gear.

Don't just buy a full Alpine system because people say they're good. Remember to audition as many brands as you can and make a decision based on what you like the sound off best. Make sure you speak to a variety of stores too and ask around about everything they say. Other brands to consider are some of these:

Treo

Oz Audio

Digital Designs

Boston

Diamond Audio

DynAudio

Hertz

Focal

Crossfire

Morel

Vibe

Earthquake

Phoenix Gold

Polk Audio

Phass

Eton

Blau

Lotus

Audio System

Audison

ARC Audio

Zapco

Tru-Tech

Milbert

One other thing; is there a reason you want rear speakers? Seeing as you sit at the front and your ears face forward, this is where I would put all your money.:D

yeh i havnt just said "OMG I WANT ALPINE !!" its just why not ? theyre are plenty of brands out there but im sure ill be happy with the alpine and they are relatively well priced for how good they are.

I want rear speakers just so it will be even louder basically :D but the front ones are better speakers!

The reason i want 2 12s is probably cos im a wanker and want to drown out other ppl with bass haha. Im well aware that in such a sized car 1 10 inch would do just fine, but im a show off :O

and yeh as far as type S / type R go's I did initially want 2 type R 12" but i realised theyd both need an amp to run at full capacity which i cant afford, this way the two type S will sound just as good as 2 half powered type Rs

i cant be bothered doing it in stages, I WANT IT NOW !! :P

thirtytwo, I notice your profile says wtb 92 r32. Do you own a car yet?

Also, as other have said there are many other brands to consider, some which are not only better, but also cheaper. FHRX knows what he is talking about, I would suggest talking to him as he has installed many high end systems and does not compromise on quality. Another thing to consider when installing a system is your taste in music, many brands cater for different tastes. I know for one, Vibe caters for a more acoustic sound in music, and leans towards the Sq side of things. On the other hand Digital Designs is more of a SPL brand and sounds like it may be more suited to your taste if you would like a loud system.

Did you leave out DLS for a reason?

nah i dont have a car yet :) but i have money and im looking at a few soon. Also as i said, im not after a full pro system so im sure alpine will do good for me, and its only subs and amps, the speakers were focal or something, cant remmeber. and as far as what type of music i listen to, i literally listen to all types. I have an Alpine 9855R head unit and im pretty sure that the different options on there will allow me to customize for different types of music to suit my taste. Thanks for the big reply though

  • 2 weeks later...

a mate of mine got a quote bout 2 months ago for his system, which consisted of an Alpine head unit (800-900 from memory), Focal front splits (about $800 worth, i htink they were the 165K2) and MRV-F545, with the new Type R sub, in the Alpine designed inclosure ($6-700)

the quote, installed with sound deadened doors was about 4k all up, which i THINK would sound better than the all Alpine system (havent heard both side by side obviously). ooohhhhh how the focals sounded was soooo sweet.

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
