hey guys,

i had the a/c compressor in my GTS die a long time ago now, and i'm trying to source a replacement. I got a quote from JustJap for $495 and i'm wondering if i should really be paying that much - i know they're expensive, but is that my only option?

someone else mentioned they should be roughly $200 from a wreckers - is there anywhere around melbourne that i may be able to get one?

thanks,

simon

Rick over at Traction Tyres was bringing in a 1/2 cut RB25DET from NZ for his race car. Might want to ask him nicely if he's willing to sell the A/C compressor to you (obviously doesn't need it for the race car).

My compressor stuffed up about 2 weeks ago and so far I've got quotes of around $300 - $400 for a used one from a couple of NSW wreckers (none down here). The guys from justjap claim they've been selling a few recently, obvioulsy they starting to get to the end of they're usable life. If anyone knows of where I can source a reco or new one, I'd rather fit that than get a used one that may have the same problem my last one had. It has been suggested that I replace the mechanical compressor with a 12 volt eletric one, anyone had experience with this sort of modification? The place I got to look at it reckons that they can't get an aftermarket replacement and doesn't know if Nissan Australia could get one for me without the part number.

Guys,

A Deisel Kiki, or Nippon compressor has RRP of $1000+. Nippon Air in Melb can rebuild them for an authorised fitter and that will mean wnty.

I have seen my fair share of A/C comps... fitted hundreds actually and my tip is... the wreckers are always a punt. You outlay $400 and then six months later booooom... another $400!!!

That adds up to a re-manufactured one with oil to compliment latest type gasses

Ciao

Thanks Targa Tom, the one I had removed was by ZEXEL and I have been told that it is harder to get than the Nippon, besides that the fitter who removed the stuffed one has turfed it so I can't get it rebuilt. I am currently making enquiries with Mobile Air Con in Sydney who may be able to get a replacement, fingers are crossed.

Read! JMS and Justjap have them almost all the time... they are NOT hard to find and they are NOT expensive...

Using newer types of gas?!?!?! 134A is the current type isn't it? Was last i looked... thats what they use anyway!

plus, make sure you get new seals and shit when it is re-done.

mines buggered - the nissan a/c compressors arent exactly the best quality. Ive taken mine out and basically did the ring around but noone in perth had a gen one - so i got a brand new one for $300 and just need to make up the bracket so it fits to an R33 :P

It has been suggeted that a local replacement would be the best road to travel with suitable mounts made for it and adjustments to hose fitting to suit. Nizmo let me know how you go getting some bracket made, what type of compressor was it you got?

Uniola UP120 - i think.

My dads making the brackets up - or will be - if he has any problems i'll let u know. Im not really impressed about him going anywhere near my car it always spells trouble so ive been putting it off as long as possible - but the air con guy is starting to get impatient cos he pulled the old one out and needs to refit the new one ot get paid. I'll keep u informed :P
