With all styles (1, 1.5 and 2 way) you can adjust the preload (before fitting) so they "open" at lower loads. Hence they don't skip when doing U turns etc. The skipping has nothing to do with the diff being 1 way, 1.5 way or 2 way. Unless you are doing the U turn in reverse of course.

Some Nismo diffs enable you to adjust the preload after they have been fitted. This is done through the axle holes.

:P cheers :D

So can you get a 2way rebuilt as a 1.5 way?

That wasn't the point of my previous post. So yes, you can change the plates, but it's not cheap as it requires replacing almost every working component. Much better value to sell the 2 way and buy a 1.5 way.

;) cheers :D

I have a Cusco 1 way. I've found that when under hard acceleration then suddenly step off the throttle, the nose of the car darts to the left somewhat (not swapping lanes, just neccessitating a slight steering correction). Is this common for 1 way LSDs going from accel to deccel?

I bought the car with the Cusco in it already so not sure if it's still healthy or not...

I know the ramp angles can be changed to alter the nature of the diffs but if the manufacturers dont know how to set them so the diffs arent grabby how would you or me do it? Trial and error, try it, remove diff, strip, adjust, rebuild, refit, try it etc?

Cusco diffs are sold as capable of running 1.5 or 2 way but I dont know how you change from one to the other. I wasnt aware of any additional parts being needed. I know parts are needed with Kaaz diffs so maybe the impression I got of the Cusco was wrong.

Im not a diff expert though, Im just passing on my experiences ;)

Rezz,

Sounds more like a suspension/bush problem to me.

a friend has commented, using his rx7 which came with a 1-way mech from japan, that it would struggle to do donuts, where you are on/off gas alot, as soon as you are off gas, it unlock straight away and the car starts to understeer / straighten up. He didn't mention anything about the car jumping to the side or anything. Perhaps this is caused by the engine braking, locking up one wheel

There was a thread a while ago, on changing an lsd from 2-way to 1.5way, i think it was a cusco diff, and i got the impression that you can do this to some diffs with relative ease. Maybe do a search on this see if you can dig up any more info.

  • 2 weeks later...

The link to the cusco site kinda explained how to change from 1 to 1.5 to 2 ways

You just have to move the pin to a dfferent hole in the plates and change it's orientation.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
