I've only had my GT-R for about 4 months now but I have had a few strange happenings already.

when I picked up my car from the seller it had no plates so I was driving it to and from legitimate destinations for the purpose of complience, rwc and rego etc. No plates on the car and on atleast 3 occations I had people in shitbox cars trying to rev me up to race them, one driver even went to the extent of stopping then driving full pelt and slamming the brakes on behind me... wtf?

my car has an exaust and BOV, they are both reasonably mild and the car is relitivly stock, it does however make a bit of noise under acceleration and I try to keep it to a minimum especially in residential streets, I do however get heaps of dirty looks from elderly people and people gesturing for me to slow dow (I am careful to obey speed limits especially in residential streets)

I havnt had to many run ins with the cops, once I was random breath tested and warned not to speed (again residential street and I wasnt speeding)

on a few other occations I have been blatently targeted by the police to see if there is somthing they can stich me up over, ie; cop car comes up behind me, overtakes, slows down, over takes me on the other side, then sits next to me before turning off.

its all quite annoying....

that said, I have seen a few skyline drivers being idiots, generally riced up r33 gtst's with P plates.

all this and I'm 32, cant people just give a guy like me a break? kinda wish I'd bought the 911 like I'd planned.

/end rant

Yeah, unfortunately it's a hazard of the profession. I get ridiculed by old people and such through streets even when I’m at the speed limit. It's just that it sounds like I'm going faster. I'm sick of it, I'm sick of the wankers out there, as said with P plate, riced up Skylines giving the rest of us bad names!

I'm not a hoon, but everyone who pulls up next to me in another import of VL Turbo ule! seems to want to have a drag, I'm not going to waste my petrol on such peasants!

once u get into a skyline, expect all this crap to happen to you. But dont let that get to you, just enjoy the car :(

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Or buy a porche or ferrari, then you will be envied .

Yeah it sucks , cheap cars ,cheap frills ,cheap performance makes every one but a lover of high performance

Jap Cars angry.

As stated enjoy your ride and have fun. :D

There are some upsides, I was sitting outside a club last night trying to find a friend and a couple of hotties were pretty unhappy when I wasn't actually interested in them only finding my friend :D

I don't think you can really blame the general public for their hatred towards our cars, I remember 4 or 5 years ago crusing around in my mates FD, straight exhaust, to4z worked of it's tits, the car was and still is the loudest baddest dirtiest car i know of....and it was like being in a Ferrari people envied you. But since the government has pushed all the anti-hooning stuff so much any commodores on mags, imports and basically any other modified car have become "hoon" cars and hence the public hate them......Just one of those things, forget about it and remember for the simple reason they ridicule you without better knowledge your a better person than them :(

i cop this ALOT from other skyline drivers with their riced up and stocker gtst's.. Just because mine looks like a stocker its self, doesnt mean they haveto prove a point to say "i beat lthlrb"... Peasents dont know whats going on when i scream past them frying 2nd :). That shuts them up good and propper. Also cop alot of death stares from other ladies driving next to me.. OK im 17 OK im on my ls OK my mums in the car with me.. BUT IM NOT A SPOILT BRAT WITH EVERYTHING I WANT.... Its called.. Earning it.

i dont see what all the fuss is about...i drive my r33 with p-plates clearly displayed, and ive never gotten what id call negative attention.

i get the usual VL guys making sure they flutter when they pass me, to show me how much cooler than me they are....and the odd shitbox VN that wants me to race his performance car.....

Just the other day driving home from protek I got a bus load of school kids yelling out the window to rip it up etc.....

I dont know why everyone's getting so upset....

and well done LTHLRB...you've pretty much told everyone that you do what they've just told u they hated...only you're NOT EVEN on your p's, and you "fry 2nd" with your mum in the car....good work.

you're my hero.

just to the people that try to do the whole street race thing. I dont go around looking for people to drag even though drag racing is great fun. Its the fools that try to rev you up.

so you dont look for street races...but when people try to race u, you "shut them up good and propper" by beating them...

ok i may have sounded like a hero saying that. But come on, alot of people do piss you off when constantly they give you a "dose" next to your window for ages. Thats mainly the vl turbo drivers.

you can afford a 911? mad...

Best law's they introduced were the P plate restrictions... So many assholes in 200's, wrx's, skyline's, vl's, old ss commo's etc wanting to show everyone how cool they are. They're not cool, they're noobs with nfi what damage they can do

seen that happen many times before, the spur of the moment thing when everyone wants to see them go sideways, then when their around a pole like a doughnut, no one wants to know them at all.

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
