Im about to throw a new belt at the car. Anyone tried the Gates belts. Advertising says 3 times stronger, but have been told they are a little noisier...can live with that if they are good things.

LOL..by noisier it would be pretty cool if it is a wine noise liek a blower or gear drive ( i wish  )

I have all Gates belts on my car, I haven't noticed it being louder at all, and I still have the stock exhaust, and no sound deadening under my bonnet.

It was only $90 extra for all of them, and for the peace of mind, I think it's worth it

I've got a gates belt - i dont notice the sound, if there is any extra... i cant notice it.

The mechanic said it only cost $20 extra and besides the place forgot to order a nissan one so he grabbed this one instead.

i dont have one myself, but i've heard a few cars with them on, and they were appreciably louder than a stock or HKS/nismo/trust/ricemaster belt.

BUT

they are cheap

they claim strength

a side note. my trust timing belt makes no more noise than stock.

I have the Gates Racing Timing belt... and yes it is louder; a small whining noise. Yes; the Gates Racing belt is blue :P

PM me if want for more info...

DarK; did you get Gates replaceements for all the other belts on the RB25DET? I want to do the same; but I need the part numbers - you wouldn't happen to have em would ya?

I believe I have one as well. (mechanic said he put one in)

And yes it is louder, I get this whirring kind of noise when revved up from idle to say 1500rpm. Idle is also a tiny bit louder.

Quite annoying for me, but I'd say most people havent noticed and wont care. I am used to it now so doesnt matter.

Don't have an RB25, but my mechanic told me that they were all Gates Racing belts used for replacements, don't know if he's telling the truth or not

Aww damn! No worries - thanks for that anyways! I know for a fact that Gates Racing don't make the auxilliary belts; but Gates do - might have to go call them and go through the painful experience of explaining exactly what type of car/motor I have :P

why would a belt make noise?

If it fits in the exact way a Nissan belt fits, then why would it make noise?

I would have thought that if there was any whining noise from the timing belt, it would be due to the tensioners not being replaced during the service and the new tight belt puts a strain on them.

I’d think it’s more of a problem than a bonus.

    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob
    • Or do we think it was installed to give 1 bar of boost max, all day, everyday?
    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
