MOTOR pulled off a 5.35 in a new commodore SS V last month, so i'd be surprised if they couldn't break a GTS or Clubsport into the 4.something range. And pull off a 12 second quarter. Quite impressive really, i'm itching to see how they go.

no they didn't - they quoted Holdens times.

when will these cars stop get so powerful? when australia gets over populated and 206kw emission laws come in because no one can breathe? :(

I think there's bigger problems on our plate than air quality. Well Sydney's plate at least.. They only have enough water to last them roughly 2 years, hard times ahead for sydney. Unless there's some sort of miraculous reverse in our weather patterns and global warming, which aint going to happen any time soon.

i have been validating them both for the last 4 months, and been for a drive in most off the new hsv's and their is no way they will hit into the 12's they might have added a few more killowatts but they have also added the weight so i would expect the new GTS to do about a 13.5 or 13.6 but no way quicker than that.

The front looks as though its been ripped off from BA-BF.. wtf is with that??

Im talking from the front lights, to the grill, front lower bar design and the bonnet lines!

The back lights look shocking.. too " ricey " and too much black bits in the front left-right panels.

I wouldnt buy it.. if i had the money!

What’s the GTR's biggest advantage?........................yup grip. Better launch always equal better time.

The new HSV has a bigger footprint, better suspension, better dynamics, and gearbox etc. It's quite believable that it's capable of sub 5 and sub 13 sec times.

The mags have already commented on the HSV being able to do 0-100 in under 5 sec, easily.

Wheels magazine tested 270kW VE Calais runs 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.9@168km/h with 6-speed auto, 245 width tyres and a 10 degree C surface temperature. Manual SS ran exact same times but 1km/h slower terminal speed.

With an extra 37kw, 275 width rear tyres and a hotter (therefore potentially sticker) road surface, I reckon sub 5.0 second passes and low 13 second times are possible for both manual and auto versions.

Very true... However the perplexing part of the equation is how the motor makes little more peak power, the car weighs more yet still manages to run a quicker time.

I think it has a lot to do with the LS2's higher average power and how holden how geared the car.

I personally feel having a shorter first gear is easier to launch/lunge off the line, run a long first gear and its all too easy to either bog down or snap it in to wheel spin off the line.

holden sucks....cant be botherd going on about it, where do i begin and where do i stop?

I'd say start with what you think is so crap about the ve commodore. Look we can all really sit here all day and e-bash the commo, but Holden has spent a billion dollars creating what is in my mind, a world class car. But thats just my opinion - who says its right or wrong. Who cares for that matter

I think the HSV looks tough as!

Guys on Top Gear seem to like the Monaro and they drive the most expensive and exotic cars out there, so SOME Holdens cant be that bad. 1 Billion dollars of development on the VE has to produce something half decent, I'd drive one.

    • Thanks for the info. The only "Issue" I've had with the shifter is I always found the throw between 4th and 6th gear too close. I'm always worried to shift into 4th accidently and sending my motor to the moon. Adam LZ recently came out with a video and stated Serialnine revised their shifters to correct this and will change all the revised parts for 150$. Strangely enough, I contacted Serialnine right after and they denied it and said it's bullshit. I found that strange as he's a distributer. I'll keep this forum post updated on that saga.
    • Yep that is correct. It allows you to adjust the short throw range from what I can tell
    • Car has been running great, I've put about 300km's of break in time on it. First thing that stands out with properly sealing rings is no more noticeable crankcase smell coming out of my catch can. This may seem insignificant, but the constant smell while driving around was infuriating. It's also nice to see my oil level remain stable. Two new issues have developed that I only noticed this weekend though. There's a very noticeable driveline vibration past 100kmh. I only noticed it now as I've been babying it under 100kmh in the backroads. This comes as no surprise as I'm running a one-piece shaft, and I paid zero attention to my driveshaft angle when I put everything back in. I also have a fair bit of voltage drop on hot starts. The starter audibly is forcing. No issues on cold start though. I must not have removed all the paint under my main block ground during assembly. I'll try and take care of both those issues this week once the kids are asleep.  I also received all the parts I was missing for my direct port setup. I will hopefully have pictures of that up soon. I'm hoping to get back on the dyno the week of June 30th as I'll be on vacation. I'm confident I should be able to make north of 500rwkw on pump gas and WMI. I'll go back again later this summer with E98, but I want to confirm my ethanol content sensor is working properly first. I've never seen it read anything but 11%. This makes sense for our 10% ethanol content pump gas here, but I would expect the occasional movement between fill ups.
    • 75% complete. Will now need to get a new axle with 5x114.3 hubs and then figure out how to customize some mudguards for it once the wheels are on.
    • Trailer prep is underway... Lined up the wheel to get a rough indication of how it would sit Then removed all the bits (as far as possible) and gave the frame a light sand and quick lick of paint   Then added some carpet
