i'm having a problem with my clutch slipping under high load. I think the problem is that I only have to push my clutch in about 20 mm to disengage it , so the clutch is always slightly unloaded. I was wondering if you can adjust the clutch so the it disengages futher down the stroke of the peddle. i give the fork a bit of a wiggle to see if it has any movement but it seems to have pressure on it. I have a extreme 9 puck clutch installed whch is supposed to be rated to 450hp and i only have 260hp.

any help appreciated :)

it has only slipped a couple of times and i have been taking it easy until i sort the problem out. i dont think adjusting the peddle will help so i think i will have to shorten the pin attached to slave cylinder. Wrxhoon, tried to look for the pic's you put up but couldnt find them :O . im guessing its a matter of pulling of the slave cylinder and trimming of a bit of the pin. will let you know how i went.

If your pressure plate is stuffed, no point in grinding the pin down, caus u might just need that extra pin length for the next clutch. But i suppose you could try adjusting the pedal length, just get uner the clutch pedal with some spanners and give it a wind.

If it still slips, well i think its time for a new clutch/pressure plate.

Won't help - the hydaulics will simply pick up the slack again. And you risk popping the pin out of the slave cylinder :D

You need to adjust the connection onto the pedal - it's current state of adjustment is probably not releasing the hydraulic pressure fully. There should just be some free "slop" of the rod when the pedal is up.

get under the dash and "back off" the clutch master cyl push rod. it should be nice and floppy.

same goes on the gearbox. if the clutch fok is hard up against the front of the hole in the bellhousing you need a shorter bearing carrier. it to shold be floppy when not in use

sounds like you have a brass or ceramic type clutch disc....? maybe? these are great if you are driving the car under race type conditions but in my experience aren't intended for everyday stop start driving. usually if these things are slipping then the damage is already done. I had one and it actually wore the pressure plate and flywheel out which created too much clearance, not enough clamping force and it only can get worse from there.

Sounds like your pedal height was too high which someone metioned before and could have caused the problem.

Attached to your clutch pedal about 3/4 of the way up, under drivers side dash, is a pushrod that goes through to the clutch master cyl, there is a locking nut which prevents the pedal height changing. loosen this nut and wind the pushrod ANTI-CLOCKWISE a turn or so, don't lock the nut up just yet, and then give it a try and adjust more as required until it feels right for you. This should give you more freeplay and hopefully you clutch will be ok.

ive had a look under the dash and i have some freeplay on the pin in the master cylinder. looks like the slave cylinder piston has run out of travel and the fork still could go another couple of cm. the hydraulic fluid will not take up the extra slack due to the clutch pushing the slave piston close and therefore pushing the hydraulic fluid out of the cylinder.only if the pin is to short it would maybe do this, but mine looks to long

Sounds like youre having a bit of trouble. I'm not sure if you have a standard height pressure plate but on mine(completely stock) I get about 20-25mm travel at the slave cylinder and thats about all any single plate clutch should have. You said that you thought your clutch wasn't fully realeasing meaing that there could have still been pressure in the line slighty dis-engaging the clutch. By backing off the pushrod you would take the pressure off the assembly.

My clutch picks up about (by feel) 20-30mm off the floor and is fully engaged soon after. I've got about 25-35mm freeplay.

If your having troubles still I'd go back to the place that installed it and ask for some help man.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'  
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
