Hey lads and ladies,

I have an r32 gtst with an rb20det...I am after some cheap but good bolt on fo fast bits to increase power in the car...I would like 300rwkw but don't think this is possible without crackin the puppy open and doing some internal work...

Currently I have:

FMIC

3 inch cat back exhaust (will have a 3 inch split dump/front pipe installed and a 3 inch hi-flowed cat soon)

POD

Boost Controller

What other parts should I get in my quest for power???

I was looking at a T3/T4 turbo (i believe, can't remember exactly), externally gated, that will be good for mid range and will spool 500 rpm later than stock (which I want as it is a street car with an occassional track outing)want to run about 16psi

I know I need injectors and pump and reg but what kind

Will I need a PFC

Oil Cooler

WHAT ELSE CAN I GET THAT IS A SIMPLE BOLT ON TO IMPROVE POWERAN AFFORDABLE ON A LIMITED BUDGET???

forget the turbo upgrade. you said budget so that wont even go near a turbo upgrade. my suggestions

ecu remap

rb25 turbo

cold air intake kit

suspension work

fuel pump

oil cooler wont add power

injectors wont add power

fuel reg wont add power

and be happy with that. injectors, ecu, and turbo is another 3k expense, plsu the cost of a 1980's style plain bearing diesel turbo which will come on boost probably near 5 grand. why bother? the rb25 will come on fairly nice and should make near 180rwkw. 300rwkw on a rb20 is way out of your scope.

300rwkw is doable but not on a budget.

I got to 260rwkw with no head modifications, running standard exhaust manifold and inlet manifold etc.

You need to ask yourself what you want more:

response or hp.

There is no turbo out there that will boost 16psi 500rpm after the stock one and be capaable of 500hp. You will need to sacrifice response to reach your target but you could expect full boost at approx 3500rpm. The rest of the engine etc. will be built for strength anyway so you will have plenty of managable power up to 7500rpm.

There's no such thing as 300rwkw on a limited budget.

There's also no such thing as a street rb20det making 300rwkw.. Well there is if you don't mind having no boost in the first 3gears. :laugh:

Settle on a sensible power level and go from there.

    • He's right ~ there is no 'magic' with stuff like this ... it is more likely that in the process of looking for the short, the loom/wire 'incidentally' got moved in the process, thus removing the short ~ now, that maybe a wire (in a loom) rubbing against the edge of some grounded metal, that's worn through the insulation, causing the (now intermittent) short to ground. If one wire in a loom has been damaged in this fashion, it's reasonable to presume that other wires beside it may have also be damaged, and now exposed...you can bet the green crusty copper corrosion will start... ...that'd be a pisser, Murphy's Law steps right in as GTS observes...but worse, something like that is easier to find when shorted...ie; unplug bulb and fuse, and put multimeter in continuity mode so you get constant beep, and carefully poke about hoping to find if some movemet of the harness stop the beeping.... ...it's still all a bit Arnie tho' ..It'll be back... 馃槂
    • Yeah, but knowledge of one wire's insulation worn through to short on earth implies the possibility of other wires doing the same. I had my power steering die, because the wire that runs to the solenoid valve on the rack runs in the same loom as the power wire for the O2 sensor. And when the O2 sensor/wire did something stupid and burnt part of that loom to death, the only indication was the shit(ter) fuel economy and the heavy steering. It took deep excavation of the looms in the bay to find the problem. Not wear through in that case, but similar shit.
    • Ah, I thought he'd wired it to one of the spare ECU inputs! Too long ago since I read that post, ha ha. I've been arguing with radiators, harmonic balancers, alternators and rust since reading it.
