hey guys,

tonight i was driving down the freeway in 3rd and noticed as soon as i put the foot down to change to 4th gear my engine light flashed and then didnt come on again.... i have a stock r34 only mod is a catbak zorst, wat does it mean when the engine light comes on? the car felt normal though it didnt sound like it was missfiring or boost cutting... any help will be appreciated thanks

you can check the ecu to see what the fault was. I'm not sure how its done with r34s but someone else might know. Might be the same as for r33's, if so, search it cause its been posted a few times. If you take it to nissan they can check it with datalogic and see whats the problem. Could be nothing...

More than likely it is O2 sensor, this happend to me once.

But do a check.

The mechanic at the time bridged some point up with a wire and the dash lit up several times to

notify us of the fault and which sensor it was.

I am not sure if this is the same for R34's. :)

congrats on finding a PFC where your standard ecu should be :ermm:.

Yep, get a touch up tune just to make sure everything is ok.

With a PFC the check engine light generally flashes if the knock reads >60. I'm guessing it knocked a little when you floored it and put the engine under load a little. Just get a touch up dyno tune done :P.

I had this problem when I first picked up my r34 turbo from the dealer.

He did the diagnostic and it turns out it was a speed controller. He said just keep driving it till the part comes in... Then 3 weeks later the warning light switched off and no problem since... Though I have had the speed controller replaced just in case but it is amazing what sorts of warnings this advanced electronic controlled cars can give you.

Battery was out of the car for one week whilst a body kit was installed, then the driving to work on the F3 in Sydney to Gosford car turns off and does some sort of emergency breaking, turns out one of the battery cells had died and was only causing a fault occassionally when more then normal power was being consumed. Naturally this was a wet day, so had headlights, wipers, stereo and the driving aids were occassionally kicking in.

Anyway, moral of the long and pointless post :ermm:

Find yourself a good "import shop" that you can build a relationship with so that you can have problems solved easily and without being ripped off or car damaged by a mechanic who does not work with imports.

Also just incase you didn't know where your diagnostic plug is, it is below the steering wheel to the right it has a little latch where you can unplug it and then plug it in to a diagnostic tool or workshop... or even one of these great new toys from greddy I seen in the latest high performance import magazine.

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.

    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
