Hey peoples.

Im debating about buying an oil cooler kit.

Similar to this one:

Has anyone used one of these? Would u recommend?

Another question i had is, do i even need the kit? Can i just by the oil cooler itself.

Do i need to relocate the oil filter? Wats the reason for this?

Thanks everyone.

Guesty

you need to relocate the filter to intercept the oil feed to and from the engine

think of it like a intercept on the airflow meter signal for the safc. same concept. intercept and then move the filter and run lines to the external cooler. well without the kit youll just have the core, it would be like buying an intercooler and having no pipes. its probably not needed. unless you are doing track days its probably pointless on a street car

Thanks for the advice mate.

Main reason i was looking at it was im wanting to start getting heavily into track days with you all.

Have some fun etc. I purchased a 50mm aluminium radiator and i'm considering replacing the stock

fan and shroud with maybe twin 12" davies craig thermo fans. Is this a good idea?

yeah it sounds like it

make sure your suspension, tyres and brakes are sorted

probably more important than an oil cooler

Ok cool.

Any suggestion on wat to do with my suspension, tyres and brakes?

I've got r32 gtst rims on my r33 gtst. Need new tyre with tread. lol

Should i upgrade my wheels? size / width etc?

Not sure wat to do with the suspension and brakes?

Thanks for ya help so far though.

Much appreciated...

An oil cooler is a good idea for track days, but its not a must. I suppose it depends on how much power you are makign and how many laps you plan on driving flat out.

I did track days for about 3 years with the std turbo and no oil cooler, depsite me having one in the garage.

You dont need to oil filter relocator kit. You can instead run a sandwich plate that means your oil filter stays in the same place and you save on the amount of hose and fittings you need.

You also dont need to run braided lines, in hindsight i think i would have rather gone with the blue Speedflow hose.

And lastly its not the size of the oil cooler that matters, its what you do with it (well thats what i tell the girls anyway  ) Make sure its ducted with say a std IC plastic shroud or make one up out of aluminium to be sure that the air goes through the oil cooler, not around.

Ditto the radiator. Its a good idea to have one, but Nissan dont even get it right from the factory. I was a phone call away from ordering one, but instead my tight ass nature got the best of me and i went to town insulating/duting my radiator so that any air through the bar has to go through the radiator. Frankly im amazed the difference it has made, with the little bit of track work i have done since i did it there is a definite drop in coolant temps :)

Nissan gave the Skylines plenty of good gear from the factory, often you just need to tweak what you have rather then replace with aftermarket

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
