Need A Quality Machanic And Chaep If Theirs Such A Thing.

Recommended Posts

Hey i live on the northern beaches in Sydney have recently blew a bottom end (think bearings and possably shafts) in my 32 GTR and am looking for a new machanic or any one no anywhere i can get parts to kinda cut costs all thoughts would help thanks.

If it has to be northern, and you dont want to deal with someone that sort of distance away (There's nothing wrong with DART, ive only heard good things) then go to Pro Concept as they're close to you

Personally, i dont think a 20 min drive should be the deciding factor between who you use :O

Pro Concept are in West Ryde but likewise I don't think you should decide on a rebuild based on how far from home the place is.

I sent my engine to proengines near Canberra and was very happy with both the service and the quality.

I checked DART out but found that they will build an engine to their own specs and didn't seem at all interested in my point of view. Since it was my engine I thought my point of view was important.

That said, any place you care to mention or is recommended to you will have at least someone who doesn't like them for whatever reason so take mine and everyone elses opinions on board but don't forget that you need to do the research yourself in the end, just like rest of us did.

Ring some places up and ask them questions. Spend the next week reading as much as you can on the forum about your engine so you can understand what they are telling you.

Oh and regarding your heading, DART are not cheap. Then again, neither are GTR's.

We can put you onto cheap and bodgy but is that what you really want?

Wise words, listen to the man! In other words, do it once, and do it properly - you skimp now on cheap parts and labour, and it may well cost you more in the end.

hmm, 26rebiuld. depending on what you want on the inside. ie stock or pistons, pistons and rods. etc etc.

realisticly you will have to part with a fair amount of coin. i can get some sort of "rough" quote if you like

it would keep me busy ehhe

  • 6 months later...

personally, i would go somewhere with a good rep. it's worth the travel

I would just like to take the opportunity to recommend croydon racing developments. I had a 3 inch turbo back exhaust (standard cat), dump pipe, hybrid FMIC, hks pod. The engine had some issues generating power after 4500rpm, and the car was dynoed a month ago making a measly 164kw at the flywheel. I took it to croydon, and they found that I had the wrong spark plugs, my o2 sensor was buggered, fuel pump wiring was passed it's exp date, and that my coils needed replacing.

After correcting the following issues, and installing some splitfire coils, manual boost controller and a magnaflow high flow cat, i'm now making 202rwkw!!!

Boost comes on early, and makes the car an absolute joy to drive. I cannot believe the improvement. Now i have a dilemma, IM RUNNING OUT OF ROAD

Anyways, croydon were really helpful, and took the time to explain things (unlike other mechanics I've delt with). I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good performance workshop in sydney

crd wanted $850 for a microtech full-tune. to me yes they are good but we arent talking bout race cars here. daily driven rb20 with in crd standards *lite* mods. they build a name and well worth the money going by the cars they race, ofcourse theyre gona be realy nice to you when you spend 1months wages with them lol.

nice work bringing up a thread from last year.

apart from that.

all the stuff you mentioned above is regualr shit that everyone comes across in a 15 year old car.

lets see.

spark plugs = $4 each = $24

02 sensor won't make any difference to generating power and only work when off boost.

fuel pump wiring would cost a grand total of $20

new split fire coils cost about $600

or you could have used electrical tape as a temporary measure to see if they really were the issue..

what did CRD charge you for all the above work which neted the 200rwkw you should have already had, had your car been maintained properly?

HAHA they seen me coming LOL

i payed like $120 for my spark plugs, some NGK iridium.

what brand and p/n are these $4 spark plugs you use?

Does anyone else here use $4 spark plugs?

iridiums go for around 18 a pop so you didnt get pumped.

the cheapies go for around BCPR6E /-S.

ive got iridiums in my car now but im going to use these as soon as i can be bothered heading to supercheap.

I don;t think there is the concept of cheap mechanic. You get what u pay for. If you want a cheap car...motor..get a ford fiesta...hahahahah not a GTR. I think Adam is right, build an engine to your spec and do it once. How much costs...does not really matter if you got the doll. If you do not have it....wait...until u can afford it...so you do not have to do it..again..and again..and again like I have to do it...than gets really expensive.

Don't know if makes any sense.

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!

    • Good time for a carbon roof
    • Not in any way aroused by any of those, except maybe the big AMGs. And that would break my never a Euro, ever, rule.
