Will Msd Work On R33

Have any one install msd on their r33? If so what model? What mods did you do?

I have asked their tech peeps and said that I would be able to use msd if I was able to seperate the coilpack from the amplifier. Is the amplifier same as the igniter (the box that sits on to of the coil cover)? Any help or feedback is appreciated thanks

The only way that you can use any of our products, is if you can separate the coil from the amplifier. If you attempt to install any of our equipment without separating the two from each other you will just end up damaging your ignition system. Here is a diagram explaining what I am talking about.

this is sonthing i wanted to post up a while ago. i am also interested in this, for runnign a nitrous system, the DIS is what i was told to use by a friend of mine. Is there a DIS 6 available??. i want to use a big shot nitrous sytem on my car, and after doing some reading about the DIS sytem, it featured a nitrous retard. also is it true what i hear about when sitting at the starting lane of the dragstrip, you can use a ignition retard to spool the turbo earlier and launch at full boost???. i heard al of this and want to be sure of it. and also after doing some more reading, thats why i am asking if the DIS 6 exists, i read that the DIS 4 is built to cope with 6cyl engines utilizing a 3 coil setup (hence they are running waste spark) or 8 cyl engines running a 4 coil setup. i dont see how a skyline would fit into this equation. please all you sky guru's :) out there shed some light

Yeah!! You can run both dis4 and dis2 if ur not running the waste spark system. But need to seperate the coil from the amp. NOw how can you seperate the amp from the coil pack? Is the amp from the diagram same as the ignitor found on top of the coilpack cover?

Msd tech just told me this """""You are not eliminating the amplifier to use the DIS-4.You are taking the signal from the amplifier and stepping it up to the coil with the MSD equipment. You still have to retain the use of the amplifier to trigger the MSD box. The reason you can not install the MSD unit before the amplifier is because the amplifier is equipped with a ower transistor that will not be able to handle the high output voltage of the MSD equipment. """

Hope this help!!

so what you guys are saying is that i would need a DIS 4 and a DIS 2 ignition system?? and separate my amplifier from my coilpack loom and splice the MSD in between them. that would bring with it that both units need to be configured on the same settings. and how would this ignition thing work with a PFC (what i am running in my car). and is it possible to configure a PFC for big nitorus use (ie creating a separate map for nitrous usage), if this is so, i could eliminate the use of a separate ignition system. is want to shot about a 150HP shot of nitrous into my engine. (will be deliverd by a Nitrous Xpress direct port system. i would be using it for my actual run, but i see it as a bit of insurance, you know when you begin to dee the other guy in you rear view at the strip, you always can count on that little button. that why i would need some sort of a high speed retard for the big shot of nitrous.

Although i have never seen one, Im of the opinion that dis6's do exist, however you can use a dis4 and set it up with waste spark using the original coils, dont know haw long thay would last, although in theory CDI places less load on the coils. You need to intercept the signal between the ignitor at the back of the head and either intercept the signal for all six (dis6) or pair the coils if using a dis4, 1&6, 2&5, 3&4. PFC will run it fine although it wont have separate maps for nos. HKS sell a twin spark CDI unit for about $800 which plugs straight in(with the appropriate patch loom)

    • Took a little trip  went to nismo hoping the get my fuel tank hoses and unfortunately they told me they didn’t have stock luckily I was able to go to a Nissan parts store and they were able to order them in for me  then can home and cleaned the tank with some degreaser and fitted the new hoses before putting it back in the car
    • 100% I’ll hack into the 33. Strap a turbo onto the RB25DE and/or put the 25 head on a 30 block. 33 passed in cos the reserve was too high. I’ll try lowballing it again and negotiate. Aim is to have it landed and on the road for under 15k, then spend the same amount on top in mods.
    • It's generally best practise to run 1x run without VCT enabled, then 1x run enabled till redline. Overlay the two torque graphs and you'll find the desired RPM to turn off VCT. Sometimes, it might be even worthwhile turning off VCT earlier control torque/cylinder pressure and using VCT purely to spool the turbo.

    • First time I ever have issues with Amazon, but my wife often tells me to keep an eye out for fakes. It finally got me. I wrapped up the conversation with Gates. The gentlemen I was talking to seemed to hate his job but the response time on their technical support is outstanding. He stated that the hose is marked with some variation of "SAE J30R10" but that if you only purchase a 1 foot length like I did, it is possible to get a cut between markings and have a blank hose. To no ones surprise, he stated the swelling and "gummyness" isn't normal and to replace/buy from somewhere else (He mentioned NAPA). I'll toss a small end of the new one in gas for a few days before pulling the hanger out again, just to be safe.  Hose should arrive Monday. For those running multiple pump in tank hangers, you know the joys of getting them out and back in. I'm surprised I haven't destroyed my level float yet.  Lastly once I wrap all of this up, I'm planning on hitting the dyno again in 2 weeks while I'm on vacation. I realized recently that my VCT is set to turn off at 5000RPM. I'm surprised it wasn't increased while I was on the dyno last. I'm expecting I can increase it to ~6500RPM, if not more. Should hopefully get another 15-20kw out of it. I also want him to revisit my knock thresholds. I'm occasionally getting false knock around 3000rpm.
