Having driven the newest model MX5 I have to say it was a lot of fun too, also being RWD is a bonus... but getting over their image is another thing. :no:

Yeah I was waiting for another honda bashing session as well haha.

Go test drive a GT4 and a type r and have a feel for it yourself mate. Try a 5gen vtir lude as well they handle and go pretty good for an NA car, plus you can pick up a good example for a decent price now days.

Trust me, we didn't know Honda cars were so prone to failure until it was too late too. Drivetrain, transmission and engine issues were the more common ones.. you have no idea how much we spent to fix those darn gearboxes!

Soon after that, we changed the fleet to Toyota Corollas and Crowns with a few Nissan Cedrics, and stuck with Toyota ever since.

And yea, 10 years old is ancient ^_^

Most R33s are already that age though... *sighhh*

i only no 1 person with a honda (1992 civic sedan automatic) and his car is falling to bits. He isnt a hoon he drives like abit of a girl actually (probably explains the shitbox choice of car). He currently has major gearbox issues with it as well as strange clunking and banging noises coming from the car.

back on topic... i agree with getting a shitter and holding out until you are allowed a turbo. Either that or buy a turbo and tell the government its non-turbo? :rolleyes: dont no if thats possible or how ur qwirky southern southern laws work (QLD FTW!)

Also consider the FTO GPX (or GPR) or AE101 and AE111 Levins. I'd class them in the same boat as the honda type R's. The FTO has a MIVEC N/A engine which is pretty much VTEC yo, and the Toyota's have the 20V 4AGE engines. Both are good pocket rockets like the Type R's, and cost a lil less coz they're imports.

Then there's R32 GTS25's (yes they exist and are make only 20hp less than a GTSt) and R33 GTS25's, R34 GT's, Supra SZ and Aristo 3.0Q's which are all slower versions of heavy cars that have faster models :laugh: Great if you want the image but not the speed.

Can't be bothered to read all the posts here but I'd get a 32 gts rb25de...decent car to drive while you get experience...then when the time comes go rb25de+t...

or better yet, buy a R32 GTS25, then when you can legally drive a turbo, keep everything you have, and change the block on your car to an RB30E block, add a turbo and wooshka!

Seriously... VN Series 1 Commodore through to a series 2 VS Commodore...

I haev a VR, S2 in manual, (Trying to sell it at the moment) whilst it is NO competition for my GTS-t, it eats up FTOs, eats up Celicas, eats up basically everything else you lot have listed that a new P-plater can legally drive.

Commodores, and Falcons, whilst a land barge, have this great aussie thing called Torque... It wins races.

And you can't modify your car at all, except for looks. Even diff gear changes, from what the RTA has told me, is a no-no. Can't do engine swaps either (Even if engine is standard)

Seriously, get a manual commodore. Absolutely nothing like a skyline, (And I mean NOTHING!) but they'll basically kill all of the P-plater legal 4 and 6 cylinders on the road.

Those Commodores have more to them than being merely reasonably quick and entertaining... They are cheap (in more ways than one - insurance, purchase price etc) and the owner is less likely to be so sentimental about them (if they are into Skylines), less likely to get vandalised, reliable and basically carefree all round. You don't have to be a knob who wants to make out it's something it's not to appreciate and get the best from the Aussie family car.

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15  
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
