Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and new to the whole car buisness. I am 24 years old and im getting rid of my dads old fairmont he gave me when I turned 18 and im looking to get a R33 GTSt Skyline or possibly a Commodore S (the skyline is my first choice tho).

What I would like to know is what are the sort of things I should look out for when shopping around for skylines because this is the first car I am actually going to buy. I have been looking on carsales for the last month at the different skylines.

Is it better to get one from a dealer or a private seller? my father dosent think its a good idea to buy from a private seller but then again he dosent know much about cars either, Im willing to spend $15,000 max.

Is it bad to get a car that has done 100,000km+ (I havent found many that have done less and the ones that have done less than 100,000km are over my price range), are spare parts at a reasonable price and easy to get? Ive been told by people at work that these cars breakdown alot and if I get one that it will be in for repairs more that it is on the road, but these people telling me this are jap car haters :P

thanks,

Craig.

Oh that I am. I absoluetly loved this car when I played Grand Turismo 2 on the playstation years ago and I said to my self back then that I would get one after highschool. Dont know what happened between then and now but yeah :P

This thread will be of great use :)

Worst case, ask here, people will help you go checkout a car.

Also, look for ones for sale here, generally people know who they are/know the car so that makes it a bit easier aswell

good choice...buy the skyline.

use the link above for some general advice...I used that and it was realy helpful.

depending on your financial situation, I would try and buy one that has got some good mods...it will save you some serious cash from doing it yourself.

e.g. zorst, powerFC, FMIC, nice wheels+tyres, suspension and maybe a kit or a clutch upgrade

Although I doubt your budget allows, personally I would be on the look for a r33/r32 with any turbo upgrades...typically you will find those cars have a fun nice mods to suit also...Depending on you budget...32/33/34..I assume your looking for an r33 and then I would suggest a S2 as they look best stock..the s1 is a bit old unless the kit has been upgraded.

btw join the club...its great and may people here have excellent info to provide about these cars.

hey mate, very good choice, if your interested, my r33 is forsale!

and many members on the forum can vouch for it!

heres the carsales link

Thanks for the info guys I really apprecieate it. I like Atreyu's car but my dad is makeing a fuss about buying a car from a private seller he wants me to get one from a dealer that has just been imported. I guess he's got trust issues or something.

just tell your old man thats its better to trust private sellers than dealers.

Most dealers out there only want your money, they dont care about the cars.

If you read through the forums, most owners here take great care of their cars and do everything they can to make sure their cars are at their best.

i can't see a reason for him to not agree with that

cheers

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
