Do we really need daylight savings? Is it that beneficial to us all?

Is getting up when its dark going to help anyone? Or what about those that like to go to bed early..

Kids... Farmers...

why can't Vic and NSW turn thier clocks back an hour so they are only 1 hour in front instead of two? Why should we follow them?

I am against daylight savings.

Whats your thoughts? If you have any...

love it, its great - why does wa have to live behind the times, its like living in a big country town some times.

first they knock back sunday trading, then everyone thinks the world will end cos we wind our clocks back during summer :)

Oh, and I have 3 young kids - and they didnt mind daylight saving when I was sent east with work.

And someone please explain to me how a farmer would be so put out cos the clock is wound back???? cant figure that one, just means they get an extra hour sleep in - tough.

farmers will have to milk thier cows in the heat of the day...which isn't good for the cows or the farmers.

Seems city folk don't give a rats about where thier produce come from.

So wouldn't 1 hour be even better?? Why can't they wind thier clocks back an hour instead of forward?

ETA: Seems this is being pushed by the ever so growing number of eastern staters coming over here to live in our beautiful city.. Don't come here and push your way of living on us.. we are happy the way we are..

And sunday trading.. Coles/K-mart/woolies are corporate bullies... there are enough 7 day supermarkets open to do your shopping on a sunday...

Milk cows in the heat of the day? What a pile of absolute crap

Cows get milked the same time every day - eg, say 6 am.

Daylight savings comes along - we wind our clocks BACK one houre, now 6 am is 5 am, the cows still come in for milking at the SAME time (6am actual) or 7am daylight savings time.

The heat of the day doesnt change - we dont actuall move the bloody sun

So wouldn't 1 hour be even better?? Why can't they wind thier clocks back an hour instead of forward

er, we DO wind our clocks back, not forward, otherwise we would LOOSE daylight, not save it.

Perhaps this is the reat reason so many people are against daylight saving in wa? - they dont actually understand?

Then just jump on the 'daylight savings is bad, farmers will die, your curtains will fade, and the kids wont sleep' bandwagon.

....Don't come here and push your way of living on us.. we are happy the way we are...

And sunday trading.. Coles/K-mart/woolies are corporate bullies... there are enough 7 day supermarkets open to do your shopping on a sunday...

ok then, gloves off....

And just so you understand, I was born and bred here in WA - long enough ago to remeber daylight savings time being trialed here.

Where are these 7 day supermarkets? (are you talking about the ones that charge 3 times as much?) and can you explain how I am supposed to buy clothes for the kids on a sunday? cos at the moment I come from a 2 working parent household, and if we want to buy stuff for the kids, its madness - have you ever seen saturday crowds at decent shopping centres - its farking crazy.

Over east they have 24 hour supermarkets, so you can get what you need whenever - no rushing around all the time, just pop down the shops when you have time.

I suppose you also want to bring back the roster service station rules - and shut bunnings, repco etc all down, because they are only allowed to open on sundays (and after hours in the case of servo's) because of forward thinking people.

At the time of deregulation of service station trading hours - there were similar screams from narrow minded people saying it would be the end of petrol stations, they would all go bust etc, etc

Hell, maybe we should go back to not having fast food places open on weekends and after hours etc yeah you would love that. Just think, uni students would have to go around begging for money, cos they wouldnt be able to find a job after hours

pretty much every time there has been a push toward the future in this state, narrow minded people drag us back. Its not a case of if, but when, I would prefer to embrace the future, not hide from it.

But once again, small minded, selfish attitudes won - how many economies do you see going down the tubes east because of sunday trading? NONE

grow up WA (those that cant get out of the 20th century) why fight change, it wont actually hurt you, and your life may actually improve.

Do you really think daylight savings would be so deeply inground in eastern states culture if it was so bad? and why is it NOBODY over east whines like a baby about daylight savings?

i'm with ^^^^

TOTALLY

i'm all for it

i hate the fact that when i get home from work

it's starting to get dark and i can't have any time with my kids

these idiots who think it means they have to work longer have no idea

there is no change in the working hours you just start earlier and finnish earlier

also i work where there is need to deal with the eastern states

and the fact that there all knocking off at f**king lunch time is total BS

You know, in this thread - NOONE has come up for any VALID reasons AGAINST daylight savings! (cows milking it bull$hit)

I think its great - doing business with over east is easier, longer daylight for summer

My great idea - we should equalise the australian timezones once and for all!

AGAINST  we are on average 6 to 7 degrees warmer than sydney or melbourne in summer who wants to go to bed when its still 30+ degrees outside and not be able to sleep ?? well thats my 2 cents on why we Don't need it.

if you anna do bussiness with the eastern states you can get ta own ass outa bed an hour earlier and do it why should everyone else have to go through it just to please a few

i went to Europe in our winter of 2003 (their summer) and the sun sets at about 10 10:30 ish

it was the best thing ever, we could still piss fart around after dinner, and we went to bed at around 10 - 10:30 when the sun was setting, and we didnt have any problems with sleeping while still light

im all for daylight savings, economically, it is the best thing that can happen to WA

the funny thing is that everybody says that "oh, im all for something that adds an hour to the end of the day" but the thing is that the hours of daylight are the same, its just that an hour is taken off at the beginning of the day

AGAINST :P we are on average 6 to 7 degrees warmer than sydney or melbourne in summer who wants to go to bed when its still 30+ degrees outside and not be able to sleep ?? well thats my 2 cents on why we Don't need it.

So the temperature drops THAT MUCH in an hour, enough so that it can make you fall asleep quicker and thus be a better person the next day?

(I've still not heard one VALID reason against it people!)

I dont get why its even an issue. If you want more daylight go to work earlier. Why does the govt have to make a rule about it, just do it. I still dont get it though, i mean the sun doesnt go down till 7-8pm anyway, how much daylight you need?

The only beef is that the eastern states will be a pain in the ass to contact when they all close up at 3pm.

As for after hours stuff, my opinion is that we just dont have the population to support 24hr supermarkets, come on, who would go shopping at 3am, not a lot of people id wager. And places like Farmer jacks and IGA are open till 8or 10pm anyway.

Plus we gotta reset server clocks and thats gonna screw everything up more than it is already.

it would be alot easier to reset a server clock, than convince work they should open/shut 1 hour earlier - then all the local businesses would be bitching because places shut 1 hour early

Adeliade seems to be able to sustain 7 day shopping, so your population theory is just that

just coz somebody else hasit does that mean we should ?

Steve if you saw a man eat sh** would you do that as well

why should we jump on the day light saving band wagon ?

Economically ?? wtf for .

over 50% of the nations wealth comes from this state ?? so i cant see how changing our clocks will change anything economially.

like i said if you want the extra hour of daylihgt at the end of the day adjust your own lifestyle not force everyone to change just because you gain a benefit from it .

also . How is not having daylight savings keeping us behind the times .

I AM YET TO HEAR A VALID REASON WHY WE SHOULD HAVE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS

hmm i think people are more likely to be out in the sun at say, between 7-8pm when the heat is still dying down from a 30-35+ degree day, instead of 5-6am when the sun is still warming Perth up. so it may attract more cases of sunburn / skin cancer / beach related incidents / heat issues...

i'm not saying its a bad thing, if you take your precautionary measures then its avoidable.

I'm just trying to shut Kym up :O hahaha!

But i am FOR it, because it'll be a little safer, women can still bus home alone at say, 8-8.30pm and it'll still feel a lot safer than bussing home when the sun's truly gone down.

Business hours difference between's already been mentioned, but technically, shifting an hour in perth means adding two more hours to do business interstate, because that means people in the east can "call perth 11am instead of noon", and perth can "call over east at 3pm and not 2pm".

this debate's just beating around the bush really, it could go on for pages and pages.. :D

just coz somebody else hasit does that mean we should ?

bwahahaha... good one - dude how old are you????

re read the above comments, just becasue they are not valid to you, doesnt mean they aren't valid to others

daylight savins bandwagon - its been around for many many many years

and as for the 50% of the nations wealth comment, that reminds me of someone with small man syndrome - last time I checked it was one country - but I suppose you believe aust should be segregated

re - read your post, really, its quite un-thought out, and if you want credibility, lets not try and compare eating shit to daylight savings, that's just sad.

and as for forcing everyone else - check the above poll, who is forcing who???? why should we be forced NOT to have daylight savings?

Do you really think you will suffer so much if you have daylight savings? NO ONE ELSE in this country appears to suffer - is this unique to living in the west - 'in the east it may not be bad, but in wa it is - very intelligent

perhaps you should go to some third world country, where you get up when its light, and go to bed when its dark

Time is man made -natures clock is the sun and the seasons. Time is there purely for the sake of co-ordination, so why not co-ordinate, and use time to our best advantage? the world is shrinking, why shouldnt wa keep up with the rest of aust, we are already 10 years behind them - or should we just sit in our outdated, stagnant, backwater ways?

there are valid reasons for daylight savings - of those people that have tried MOST like it - why else would other states have kept it? ever thought what you are missing?

BOTTOM line, it doesnt really matter what any one person thinks, things will be what they will be :D

er, we DO wind our clocks back, not forward, otherwise we would LOOSE daylight, not save it.

Hang on a minute.. If its 11am in Vic, its 9am here..and they wind thier clocks back, it becomes 10am right? making it one hour infront of WA - Wa being 9am?? So therefor, they must wind thier clocks forward.. where 11 becomes 12 making it a 3 hour difference to perth time..

and you can't save daylight steve. The sun is only up for a certain amount of time each day.

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
