But if the same copper see's him once, and then 2-3 months later... and with WA plates its a standout for sure.

Questions will be asked... questions you dont really want.

Unless i was mistaken about how the rules work... you cant have a car rego'd in WA and be living in Vic (over 3 months) even if you have a residential address, its not classed as your residence if your not living there permanently

I looked into this a fair bit before taking a contract in WA. The story is that Melb is my home and my place of primary residence....I am simply in WA for work on a temporary basis. As I am returning to Melb when my work is finished here there is no point changing everything to WA stuff, as two weeks later I could be sent home (ah the joys of contracting  ).

As a result the '3 month' rule has no application here. Yes it is true what you say about interstate plates sticking out but while I have been here I haven't been pulled over once, so as long as you are not driving like a tool it shouldn't be an issue.

If push comes to shove I guess it would depend on the type of contract/job that Jason is taking in Vic...

Oh and the 100mm rule is the same in Vic and applies from the ground to the lowest point of the vehicle, whether it be exhaust ,chassis or otherwise.

I was thinking of saying the same sort of thing if I got pulled over.

It is set to 100mm from the base of the front bar just in front of the front wheels, which seems as the lowest point on the car.

I have a similar sort of question. My car is registered in Victoria (my parents live in Vic and QLD about 50:50 per year, vic in summer and qld during winter) and the car is under my dads name.

I live in NSW now and spend most of my time in NSW with the car.

If i get pulled over in NSW and defected, do i have to go and get it cleared in vic, can they make me? or will i have to get it cleared in NSW?

Do they have any rule about where it is registered if it is my "dads" car and I am just borrowing it if he has a residential address in Vic?

So was it a good experience with the secret or a bad one? :P

The height is sitting on 100mm which is the legal limit here...is it the same in Vic?

Thanks for all the info guys :)

100mm without you in it? Cause 100mm is right on the limit here.

They are allowed to measure it fully laden, so 3 fat cops get in, your gonna be under 100mm.

I would suggest raising it to 120/130mm if you can, it could save you hassle later on

Are you coming over here are a perm contract or what Jason?

My stuff is only worst case. If a cop sees you twice over 4-5 months he will come hassle you. Its just how they are here.

Nice car Jason............Do you look young?

Cause your such a easy target here.

Tell you what you do....as everyone else has said.

Take stickers (shopping list) off...increase your ride height....get 2 resinators fitted to exhaust.

Also, rap your Turbo in a black thermal shield and have the engine bay and all your shinny bits painted black.

This way when they look under your bonnet they won't be blinded by all the polished and Chrome work you

got going on there :P .(Just Kidding) :)

Also you are 21 years of age.. so...power to weight ratio applies in Victoria...not that they(Police) are to interested in that so much.

Good luck

I can raise the suspension without much trouble. I work in I.T. so could easily say that I float between the 2 states. Will be looking at either contract or perm

Thanks :) ...I am 31, so probably dont look that young ;)

If you can float, then you can keep it all WA easy enough

Its only if its perma setting that you might find yourself with the more painful issues

If your just a contracting then you should be easily over the line.

Especially if you go back to WA once or twice during the melb visit.

How long you over here for anyways?

You better like beers to mate, as a number of us live near where your aiming for :P

Might be a permanent role, but they wouldn't know that right? I have been thinking of contracting for a while first. There is no time limit, but it could be a few years or more :verymad: The car will then be driven less and less on the road.

No problem with the beer  I dont mind a beer or four at all ;)

just say ur on holidays/work and travel 2 and from all the time... then tell the cop 2 suck u sideways cos there aint crap he can do :verymad:

also out of curiosity if u get pulled over by a cop n he tells u that u need 2 go c the epa in a few days time and u tell him ur going back to perth b4 that date, what happens then?

be prepared for some ass reaming down here

haha what is with the such strict laws there? seems so much stricter than all other states. :(

Thats what I was thinking...that if I travel back and forth, and will not be long term permanent in Melbourne then I shouldn't have to switch rego over :P Will see how it goes...if it's bad, she might spend most of the time in the garage...the car that is :D hehe

Man

I was in your situation 2 years ago.

I used lived in Perth and I had a R32 with a RB25DET that was extensively modded (to say the least).

Brought it here to Melbourne when I moved.

After 2 weeks Got dicked with every fine under the sun, no engineering, turbo, management you name it I got reamed. EPA but no defect.

Ended up sending the car back to my parents in Perth and I sold it there.

If you have WA plates it will only give you more attention. They cant defect you, but they can EPA you.

Its really up to you what you wanna do. You should be pretty safe.

brighton has porsches and ferraris - but down beach rd i have seen a fair few imports.

This might be a very long way of doing things, but cant he borrow stock parts, install them, get the car registered and what not and then put back the mods? Thats if he wants to have Vic registration?

You still have to drive around with the mods on though, so a major defect results in having to pull it all off again, let alone the EPA.

With the level of modification on the car this would also be a costly/time consuming process.

haha cool  I will let you know when I arrive and we can go over the safe areas :)

what is the problem with driving at night?

It will mostly be a weekender only, and it sounds like tht is the way to keep it :)

You will be more likely to get pulled over at night. How often do you see cars being pulled over in the rush hour/during the business day vs at night (it does happen but compared to people being pulled over at night is much lower). Most of the pulled over posts I have seen have been from the evening.

Anyway good luck with the move and as a weekender, I would have thought you will be fairly safe anyway.

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
