mike,

The charcoal canister has a breather pipe that goes back to the fuel tank and a couple of pipes at the top that draw from the manifold.

You can simply block all the pipes. The only drawback is the fuel tank may make noises when opening it (not dangerous).

(many cars have had this canister since the 70's as a polution control device) all the performance cars I've owned I had the canister disconnected .

The benifits are one air less leak to the inlet manafold there is a little performance gain not much tho, I'd imagine the fuel tank would no longer see turbo boost.

more room under the bonnet if the container is removed all together.

removal/disconect dosent affect emisions measureable at the tailpipe as the idea of it is to take fumes off the top of the fuel tank and stop the tank Pressurizing.

if you leave it venting to atmo & cut and block the pipes going to the inlet the tank wont make that funny noise when opening.

Micko, a couple of people I've spoken to said that this is the first thing police look for, and that they do know what/where they go; mainly since it's emissions control

not sure of the fines, and not sure if this is true as I haven't been pulled over before

At the same time, I can't really see much of a performance gain from it, since from what I can see it's all from the plenum, and whether the air goes down the pipes to the carbon canister or with a blocked pipe, shouldn't make by any means a detrimental effect on anything

just make sure you plug up the hoses if you do remove it :D

First thing the cops and the epa look for.

Also if its disconnected permanantly then u will get petrol fume smell coming in the car when u are reversing and when u r stationary

    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
