Sitting here listening to the radio, and they just had a report about the tripple fatality from the sunshine coast last week or over the weekend or something (they didn't go into much detail about it) but now they're whinging that there's people doing "burnouts" and "spinning their wheels" nearby, and they are now labelling 'hoons' as 'murderers' (in their own words)

What

The

F*#$?

That's OK I label most people as dickheads, people behind the above mentioned comments fall into that category. The media is fuelled by misinformation and scare tactics with EVERY facet of life, they even dug under every rock they could find to get hold of a drug addict that had his life ruined by experimenting one schoolies lol, yeah I'm sure it was one event that turned his life to shit.

The media always finds an easy scapegoat to blame all problems on...car enthusiast haven't been accused of inciting violence yet though, maybe one day?

Yeah that crash made the papers down here too. Can't call them "murderers" as that means someone who kills deliberately. Thing is it's just stupidity that causes the problems. They won't let inexperienced idiots drive fast cars beyond their limits, so instead they get a slow car and drive that beyond its limits. Still end up dead either way.

The fact is the driver was drunk, and doing 200kph in a 60kph zone, on a road that’s extremely bad, in a suburban area.

I knew the owner of the car through other friends, and the reality is his “V8 Holden” was so far from what the media have been classing as a hoon car it wasn’t funny. Since when where lower springs and a legal limit exhaust hoonish?

The Police and Medial need to wake up, drop this hoon shit and report what really happens, but I guess the real stories don’t sell.

I guess drink driving is so 1990’s, and speeding only sells if street racing is inserted in front of it.

in my eyes there are the dickheads who hoon and to illegal things that are dangerous

thouse that do some illegal things in a more respectable manner and try not to do dangerous things

and then theres the 1000000s of others who drive "normally"

The dickheads with the names of the deceased written over theirs cars haven't exactly helped the situation either. Just because your mate (or mate of a mate of a mate of a mate of a mate) has died, isn't an excuse to do burnouts etc at top of Alex Headlands, or cut infront of traffic. Fags.

yes... was up at mooloolaba yesterday for a swim, and there were about 5 or 10 cars 'lapping' with "RIP Jack Daniels" or something* written on them.

*i didn't see the words myself, a friend told me about it, but i saw the cars lapping all day

Thats it, and they are only doing their jobs arent they. Which is to make their station/paper money.

Seriously what does it matter? Some people like fast cars, others dont. The ones that dont are always going to look down at the ones that do, the media just provoke it a bit.

You gotta admit tho, its a damn good story. Its got cars, speed, alcohole, death, bit of sad stuff etc. If it was a movie we would all be queing up outside the doors to see it!

Same stuff, different day.... let them think, and do all they want... hoons are murderers to them, but they only do stupid shit because the media are a bunch of stalkers. so the hoons fear for thier lives and do something stupid and accidents happen, because they are harrased by the media because they wont leave people alone... always sticking thier noses where it dont belong...

if you understand this then you are doing better then me.... im not as think as i drunk i am... ;) Bottoms up

The driver was Joel Doyle.

I knew him, had a few beers with him in the past.

Nismo_Boy: The tox reports arn't back yet, nor do they know how quick he was going. How do you know he was drunk and going 200kph when the cops don't?

Daveo: It has speeding but where did you get the drinking from? You guys are doing what the media does, jumping to conclusions.

Speculating just like everyone else with speed. He had a drink at the party/gathering, then again I wasn’t there I didn’t see it with my own eyes. Point is, the car shouldn’t have been going that speed.

The crash happened about 800m from my house.. how anyone could even contemplate speeding along that road is ming boggling, its as sketchy as f#ck. I new the the owner of the car " JD ", he was a top guy, didnt have anything bad to say about anyone and allways had a smile on his, its still a shock to me. He was a sensable driver, in all the time i'd known him he didnt do any stupid shit, at all, ever.. which amazes me even more about the speed. It's such a tragic loss of life that could have been stopped. But what happens now is, we as car enthusiast's are all going to get labelled as hoons, anyone with the slightest sight of moddifications is going to be harrased byt the police, and they love to streriotype and harras us enough as it is. Its just another thorn in the side for us that do the right thing... As for the burnouts and shit people are doing, its f#cking stupid further more giving EVERYONE a bad name for an INDIVIDUALS actions, its giving the media and police even more reason think one minded. Anyway.. -RIP JD you'll be missed mate-

I said thats what the story says champ :P Stores dont need to be true, just entertaining.

Say the story I put up before or... Driver killed doing 50kmh in a 60zone, tyre blew out, hit pole. Its boring, and all people would say is poor bugger.

And thats my point.

eh whatever, f**k the media, it's always full of rubbish

people who believe what they read in the papers/see on tv aren't people whose opinions you'd care about, are they?

as always we'll continue doing our own thing, ignore the sheep =P

yeah this is old news... so were a facet of society targetted by the media? get over it, thats what the media does,

some other faves;

-refugees

-knocked up teenagers

-junkies

-conmen

-arabs/lebs

not to speculate on the above incident but if i had people in the car and was more than a bit over the limit (in either speed/ alcohol and had something go wrong i'd label it as manslaughter, the driver is in control and assumes responsibility for everyone in the car regardless of the passengers gettin in on their own free will.

Dynamix: JD wasn't driving. I swear they reported that he was but todays article said he wasn't.

Konrad: I don't know. In civil law (negligence) you wouldn't be found guilty as you assumed the risk of getting into a car with a drunk driver.

IMO if you get in the car with a drunk driver you are an idiot and the driver shouldn't be responsibility, voluntary assumption of risk.

Criminal might be different. f**ks me.

    • I think the concept is highlighting the various scenarios where thicker oil helps, and thicker oil potentially doesn't help and only generates heat and costs power, in turn for safety which isn't actually any safer (unless you're going real hot). If anything this does highlight why throwing Castrol 10w-60 for your track days is always a solid, safe bet.
    • Jason should have shown a real viscosity vs temp chart. All the grades have very little viscosity difference at full operating temperature.

    • Yep, if you are applying filler it sounds like there is something wrong with the body lol. Safe to assume there is going to be a lot of sanding going on if your still applying fillers.  Picture a perfect bare metal panel, smooth as glass. You lay down your primer, it's perfect. (why are you going to sand it?) You lay down the colour and clear, it's perfect. No sanding at all took place and you've got a perfectly finished panel.  You won't be chasing your tail, sounds like you were prepping to start laying filler. If your happy with the body after the sanding, there is some bare metal exposed and some areas with primer, no issues at all, start laying the filler. You are safe to lay filler on bare metal or primer (of course check your technical data sheet as usual for what your filler is happy to adhere to).  This isn't a 100% correct statement. There is primer that is happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. There are fillers that are happy to adhere to smooth bare metal. Just make sure you're using the right materials for the job.  Typically if you are using filler, you would go primer, colour and clear. I've never seen any instances before where someone has laid colour over body filler (maybe this happens, but I haven't seen it before). So your plan sounds pretty normal to me.
    • I don't think there's any way someone is push starting this car.. I honestly can barely move it, and moving it and steering it is just flat out not possible. I'm sure it is, but needs a bigger man than me. I have a refurbished starter now. The starter man was quite clear and consise showing me how nothing inside a starter really should contribute to slow cranking, and turned out that for the most part... my starter was entirely fine. Still, some of the wear items were replaced and luckily it didn't show any signs of getting too hot, being unfit for use, etc. Which is 'good'. I also noticed the starter definitely sounded different, which is a bit odd considering nothing should have really changed there.... Removed and refit, and we'll pretend one of the manifold bolts didn't fully tighten up and is only "pretty" tight. GM only wants 18ft/lb anyway. I also found a way to properly get my analog wideband reading very slightly leaner than the serial wideband. There's Greg related reasons for this. The serial output is the absolute source of truth, but it is a total asshole to actually stay connected and needs a laptop. The analog input does not, and works with standalone datalogging. Previously the analog input read slightly richer, but if I am aiming at 12.7 I do not want one of the widebands to be saying 12.7 when the source of truth is 13.0. Now the source of truth will be 12.65 and the Analog Wideband will read 12.7. So when I tune to 12.7 it'll be ever so slightly safer. While messing with all of this and idling extensively I can confirm my car seems to restart better while hot now. I did add an old Skyline battery cable between the head and the body though, though now I really realise I should have chosen the frame. Maybe that's a future job. The internet would have you believe that this is caused by bad grounds. In finding out where my grounds actually were I found out the engine bay battery post actually goes to the engine, as well as a seperate one (from the post) to the body of the car. So now there's a third one making the Grounding Triangle which is now a thing. I also from extensive idling have this graph. Temperature (°C) Voltage (V) 85 1.59 80 1.74 75 1.94 70 2.1 65 2.33 60 2.56 55 2.78 50 2.98 45 3.23 40 3.51 35 3.75 30 4.00   Plotted it looks like this. Which is actually... pretty linear? I have not actually put the formula into HPTuners. I will have to re-engage brain and/or re-engage the people who wanted more data to magically do it for me. Tune should be good for the 30th!
