which 34 ? (chassis code pls.)

if its BNR34 then yes (GTR) look on th base of the key head if you have a blue or red tab then yes. the quickest way to prove it is to cut a key and have ALL the known keys away from it. from there start your car with the copy. if it goes - no OEM immobilser.

Its a 1998 gtt skyline, just trying to find out if i have to put one in for insurance purposes.

Regards

Paul

doesnt have one. yes the insurance company will require a minimum 2 pt item. where are you?

Am located in sydney. Will be getting the car in about 8 weeks time as it has to come from japan. Was just trying to account for some of the costs involved in this purchase.

Paul

I also wanted to confirm this as I have just brought a 34 GTT. I read in sales brochures (must have been NZ ones) that they all come standard with an immobilzer security system. Also mine was just taken over the pits and licensed (in WA) as its just come from Japan - I though they would not have registered it without having an immobiliser as thats the law in WA?

I have the key with the blue and black buttons on it. I did get another key cut and I tested this and it did start although i had only just started with the proper key just moments before. Think I better test it again!

Is there any way to get an alarm or immobiliser and have it integrated into the factory key / buttons? I don't want to have to carry around another fob thing for the alarm.

The japanese imob. don't meet aus. standards so you will need a new one. When I bought my car the dealer put one in at no extra charge, but since then I got a Mongoose M80s. Nice alarm with all the features you could want.

So does your Mongoose M80 fully integrate with the standard key fob things? ie no extra thing with buttons on it? Also how much did you play for this?

Cheers.

I never asked to have it integrated, so I have an extra thing with buttons to operate alarm. I had the same thing when I had the standard imob. just it only locked/unlocked the car no alarm function.

I paid $250 for the alarm M80S (theres like 4 different models i think) and $230 for install of that plus some other gadgets.

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.
    • They are daft and there's a reason it never caught on. Steering feel? We don't need no stinking steering feel!
    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.
    • Define "starting to fail". Wy not just rebuild them?
    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
