Has any one fitted white faced gauges to there car before? I have a R33 series 2 and on ebay you can pick up white faced gauges for $75 plus shipping. But the thing is how hard are they to fit? Is it something i can do myself? and has anyone done it before? also are the legal to have? (cos everything these days is illegal!)

Thanks

Adz,

I personally have white faced guages installed in my Series Two. To install:

1. Remove dash surround and remove dash cluster.

2. Unclip the front clear panel and expose the black bezel.

3. Remove bezel to expose guages.

4. The guage faces will have an enlarged center hole to slide over the needles... and sit over existing faces. For boost, you have to remove the tacho by unscrewing it from the back and pulling out from the front. The whole assembly should come out. (NOTE: DO NOT REMOVE NEEDLES)

5. Depending whether your faces are EL, remove all lighting bulbs except for warning lights and the one down the bottom right.

6. Again if EL, feed wires through where the bulbs used to do and hook up to 12 volt source (headlights)

7. Re-assemble and put back in.

8. You now have a sexy new dash.

Any more questions, give me a yell.

Cheers,

-Bman

i am after a set of these for my car but they only make them for GTS-T's =[

i COULD put the GTS-T ones in my car, but that is major wank factor concidering it will have the turbo gauge there... and no needle...

if anyone comes accross any for a GTS please pm me.

kthx

josh

ive got the white face for the dash cluster. but with mine its just all white and glows blue or green. it was a pain to put in because i had to take the needles off and it is a bitch to get them back on, spot on the right spot (adv to have a digital speedo and tacho).

but the rest was easy. just a mater of taking it apart, sticking them on, hooking up the wires, placing the dimer and back together again.

what will they fit in??

And also, these NISMO white faced gauges are 320kph and 11 grand tacho, as opposed to the stock 180kph and 9 grand tacho. Do you have to change cogs/gears at the back or somethin??

Sorry if this has been covered before, just wondering

Bman how much were your ones, and where did you get them ?

Alex_r33: They were about $90.00 + Postage

Josh: Im sure they do make them for the GTS's aswell, I got mine off ebay, have a look on there and try searching for EL GUAGES or similar and you should have some luck.

xtra.5: I didn't see the nismo guages until after I purchased these.... Should have waited a little while longer. :miner:

Cheers

  • 3 weeks later...

What if u just bought the whole instrument cluster? Would that re-calibrate it......i was thinking this, before when tossing up between the 320 vs 180 white faced dials. got the 180 cause seriously how often do u go above that. and on the drag strip u get told how fast u were going anyway! Plus personally i think they look better with just the middle lighting up and being able to jump between blue and green just by pressing a button.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
