Brad had a VL with an RB26, now ive got a Stagea with an RB30!

No, thats lies....but I do have a wagon that doses its ass off!

Got bored after a few days, plus, the lack of a BOV kept causing the car to be drivin like a manual to keep the revs up, which equals not auto box friendly. Good for a few laughs on Friday night though :(

HAHA thats awesome. Sounds just like mine did. I bet yours sounds loud and just when you release the throttle quick, but flutters if you back off gently...

I had to drive mine like a manual if im cruising under about 40kph, or she'd stall too. Messes with the vacuum which is a BASTARD cos i love my ricey BOV.

Is there a way to fix it, apart from just putting the factory one back on?

Oh yeh, I learnt to keep a good 5+ second dose if I wanted to.

I am going to get a metal intake pipe made with a provision for my stock BOV, as even with my stock BOV, my car still flutters. Will let everyone know the results as well, from a performance point of view. :(

Its cos o fthe big intercooler, right? cos i noticed mine got a lot louder with the intercooler. Something about it echoing in end tanks and what not... the flutter actually comes from the pod, cos the BOV doesnt vent when u release it slowly

vl commos in NZ came with rb20e's

You have got to be kidding me? :)

You would have thought that Holden learnt their lesson after the Starfire that commodes and 2lt engines do not mix......

Such a pity you didn't get the rb30 turbo - it made the commode a desirable car for the first time ever IMO

o_O

Safc is super airflow converter.

It alters the AFM signal to the ECU. So you can tune fueling and AF ratios.

Basically, more power.

Didnt realise there were such gangsta mods for VL commos haha.

vl turbos are pretty rare over here.

Could someone please explain what 'dose' is? Have you removed the blow off valve?

I have a SSQV & an alloy intake pipe (a/f meter to turbo). The intake pipe just makes it a bit more noisey

Ok, Uhh, How to explain this.

So Holden made VL's.....

Ok na, really. A dose is when you remove the BOV and use a metal pipe staight off the turbo inlet to create different pitches of flutter. The ideal dose pipe puts the AFM in the cooler piping and runs no air filter.

This is something that almost ALL VL's do.

Different noises's/reverb can be created with different bends/size/material pipes.

Ok.................But why? :D

when i brought my r33 it sounded VERY similar to that and after a while of trying to figure it out why it was doing it,i had found a SIZE C BATTERY from japan placed inside the bov, removed the battery and is now barely noticable, weird huh

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
