I don't know the best thread to post this in...

Has anyone had experience with G-Tech Performance Meters?

They plug into your cigarette lighter, and measures acceleration accurately to tell you things like:

0-100 times

g-forces

and horsepower

Wondering how well they work, and if anyone has one? The idea of being able to measure power without going to the dyno may be handy for making adjustments on my car, and being able to gauge the changes better.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've seen one of the original G-Techs used.

The guy ran a 101rwkW in his CA18DET S13 at Unigroup's dyno, and then when he was going home it measured 99rwkW on one of his street "power runs". So, pretty damned accurate.

ive got a g tech and cant say that ive used the rear wheel hp function yet but when i used the quarter mile function with my old turbo set up i got 111.5 mph on the gtech and 110.5 to 112 mph terminal speeds from the print outs at calder park race way. i used the 0 to 60mph on the street as a guage to how well my car was responding to modifications. so i think that it is an amazing piece of gear!!!!

I used one the other day.I got 5.9 sec to 100km.And a g-force number of 0.57.Not bad for a stockish R33.

On the other hand my mate who owns the G-tech pulled a 5 sec to 100km and a 0.72 on the g-force metre.

But he has a club spec5 wrx with alot more mods.

I am the national importer/distributor for Beltronics, and I have a version called the FX2 Accelerometer...

All of these devices (Beltronics, G-Tech, Pivot, etc) are similar but the difference is in how many times a second the unit measures the G-forces, and how many parameters you can input about the car (weight, drag, roll effect, etc)...

I have used the FX2 in my car and it is registering a average time of 12.7, and although I haven't taken it to the drags yet, I am sure it would post a very similar time (probably a little better with a burn out and race prepaired track).

I think that they are a great way to see if a gain has been made when you change something or upgrade a modification. There is an extra cable you can buy to link it to your computer and with the free downloaded software, you can view upto 10runs with break downs of 60', 120', and 1/4mile with 0-100 and ET... it also shows the HP based on the inputed parameters-Vs-the G-forces. You can clearly see where you make the gear changes and you can also look at the power curve to try and make it as smooth as possible with tuning.

Very neat piece of gear... PM me if you are interested and I can direct you the local dealer or I can arrange something direct.

Interesting but the link provides no information about the product?

I have used the G-Tech Competition one, it also allows you to download the run and look at different points on the screen. It even prints out a dyno run page!

It was only a few kw's off my actually dyno pull.

If you take the time to set it up properly with acurate weight etc it's great!

Cheers

how much are these now.. seen them on ebay a few years ago for like 60..?

still get them off ebay?

I got mine for about $60 a few months ago, and they are still available at about that price. The newer G-Tech Pro SS, which measures heaps more stuff (and looks sooo much cooler ) goes for about $320 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=300066211531)

    • Probably speedometer itself if the odometer is ticking. If the needle is stuck from a bit of grease or something that can cause it to stay at 0. Or a cracked solder joint in the speedometer can do it too.
    • Thanks Fella’s   to take this off topic and to elaborate a bit more. I have an rb25/30 going into a r32 GTST.. expected to make around 600-700hp. Would you?   A) R34 GTT box   B) CD00#?  I’ve seen a few posts about the CD swap and sounds fairly involved with making it fit etc but if it’s worth the work then I’ll go that way
    • Lower at the hubs. Funny I forgot to mention that part. Do this pull here I turned the camera off too soon but the graph shows a drop at the top and that was because the pipe from the turbo blew off. The tuner said we could’ve made possibly another 15 whp. He also added if I switched to ethanol we could up the boost some more as well. I was comfortable capping it at the most of 20 pounds. Turns out the turbo pipe just needed a new worm clamp. Got home replaced that then did a third gear pull from 3k to 7200 rpm and the power was great to the top. I just got an ecu mounting bracket from IEE that I need to try and get everything to fit well. It’s a PITA to get the harness and ecu fit properly behind that kick plate
    • He means "as opposed to mechanical cable drive". Older cars (R32 for ex.) had cable drive. Later cars with essentially the same gearbox, ie R34 GT (NA RB25) used essentially the same box as the R32 GTSt, but instead of a cable drive, had an electronic speed sender plugged into the same hole in the box, running from the same little gear that would have run the cable. Some of the shittier later cars use a speed sender on the nose of the diff, or the ABS sensors.
    • Lower than engine, or lower than it should at the hubs? Either way, that is a nice power figure and I'm not surprised you say it rips now. What stopped you from turning it up any more? Injectors? Or did it just stop responding to boost?
