from what i know engine mounts are the same, all rb blocks are the same from memory.

and yes u can throw in a 25 box but im not sure about the gearbox mounts.

if your saying money is tight then id simply shop for a gts-t shell again, redo your old care, if your planning on doing a rb25 conversion into gtr, the gtr shell vs gtst shell alone price would be great difference. yet alone having the hassle of the conversion, personaly i would just find another gtst shell and redo your previous weapon.

Yeah my initial thought was to buy either a stock GTS-T, or even a stock GTS and rebuild my old car. But if i could find a rolling chassis of either then that would be the obvious choice. But i cant find any 32 rolling chassis' at all, except for a GTR. And considering this GTR rolling chassis is roughly the same price as a stock GTS-T, it had just opened up another option.

If i go with the GTR, I wont have the RB20 engine and a few other things to resell again, but a GTR looks so much better than a GTS-T. Only thing is, that im usure if much modification will be required to get the RB25 into the GTR shell. (im mainly concerned about the gearbox and diff)

If it will go in relatively easily, then there is a big chance i will do it. (I know its not RB26, but i like the idea of a RWD GTR). But if there is going to be too much involved, then i'll just leave it and wait for either a GTS/GTS-T rolling chassis, or a nice cheap stock GTS/GTS-T

hmmm bolt the rb25 rwd box upto a rb26 and sell your 25 to me :D= rwd rb26 ftw :( remember rb26's are gettin abit long in the teeth these days... goodluck with w/e you choose... wish i could help on will it/wont it fit.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the sumps are differant and i think you'll need to modify it in some way.

Have you considered the weight differance between the GTS and GTR. Without the 4wd, the GTR is an understeering pig, as there is more weight at the front of the car. Pretty useless for drifting, etc, as the ass end always want to come round. :P

Really?? I havn't considered this. Can you possibly elaborate a bit more?

Why and in what ways is the GTR chassis heavier than the GTS-T?? With the exception of the guards i thought they would have been roughtly the same.

Edit : I know the driveshafts would weigh a bit, but couldn't i take all that out, or even use my existing R32 K frame (if its not smashed too much)

look, fit the rb25 in with the 25 box. no probs. later when you got the cash convert it to gtr running gear...if you want

just get the thing on the road in the meantime.

the rb26 fits in a r34gtt with out probs, no cutting involved, so i dont see why it wouldnt work the other way. you wont be able to use the 4wd box cause the rb25 sump doesnt have the front diff etc etc.

he wants to go rb25 rwd, not 4wd. so how would it weigh more. your remooving teh front diff,drive shafts etc attesa pumps and gtr have aluminuim bonnet+guards. i fail to see how it would be an understeering pig with all that "extra weight"

If he removes the 26 gearbox, drive shafts, pumps, etc. ok it may even be lighter. But he also has to change the front steer rack and suspension as the GTR has a poorer turning circle than a GTS, due to the allowance for the front drive shafts. For drifting etc, you'll need all the counter lock possible.

Personally, decide what you want to do with the car and choose accordingly. I would personally buy a very cheap GTS and transfer all the goodies. In the long run it will probably work out cheaper, and you'll have stock parts to sell, to recope some of the losses

All depends on what he wants to do with the car.

I got the impression that he drifts (roll cage, accident, etc) a GTR is useless and too expensive for that.

The sheer weight is whats going to hurt, and in RWD... a 2.5ltr with 1500+kg's isnt going to be nice.

The R33 isnt too bad, but add another 150kg's to that again.

Its a lot of mucking around if your going to remove all the attessa etc etc etc.

And also legalities spring to mind... IIRC you can direct swap motors, but you cant go backwards in capacity.

Now i could be wrong as its been a while since i've read the tonnes of documentation i have here on my PC.

But it definately be a mission with the engineering side of it all which is more your problem (being in melb) than anything else.

Personally, when GTS-t's can be had for 7-8k, and selling off the motor and all the crap you dont need is going to refund you 2-3k of that and you have a no-fuss conversion that is lighter to boot and its cost you what, 4-5 grand change over? How much is the GTR shell selling for?

Go the GTS-t/swapover route mate. It will workout cheaper, as time is also money.

I think I may just stick with a straight GTS/GTS-T swapover. Seems like its too much work with the GTR, especially cos i would want to remove all the attessa stuff to make it lighter, and get that extra 'lock' (yeah im a drifter).

Plus the whole legal side that i cant be F@#ked with.

I didnt beleive you had to cos of the limited release of RB25DE's into 32's, but im unsure. And i imported my current car with the 25 already in it, so i dunno what the whole process is

Yes they did: RB25de (non turbo)

To make it legal, you'll probably need to take it to an engineer, I wouldn't think there would be much hassle, probably justa brake upgrade. If you are goning to do this, i would keep it as stock as possible, get the engineers and then put in the cage, etc.

Though, most modifications would make it illegal again, but at least the car is engineered for the rb25det.

Yea, but it defies the purpose of having a GTR if your going to stick an RB25 in it… maybe approach a Jap wrecking yard and offer a trade on your smashed R32 (remove all the useable parts first) for an GTR front cut… that way you will have an RB26DETT in a GTR as God intended :P

We are not knocking him. The logistics are huge. Read the first post again; his front wheel almost landed in he lap so i dare say a few things from the front suspension are bent :P .

Didn't read any of your great ideas on how to legalize the conversion, etc. This project will end up costing him more money than the GTS route, and if you read the first post you'll realise that money is an issue.

the GT-R and GTS-T cross members are vastly different, due to the gt-r x-member being designed to deal with the front half shafts

to fit the 25, you will need the 26 enging mounts and attach them to the 25, thats the whole mount, the rubber bush part and the solid cast ally mount part...

as for the front shafts, there are a couple of options, you will need to get a set of gts-t hubs, as the gt-r is actually part of the asembly to help keep the hub attached to the car, remove the shaft and the nut holding it all together, the wheel will fall off, simpkle as that..

to save going to the hassle of swapping hub assemblies, find a gt-r sump or gts4/stagea etc, basically anything 4wd in that range, HOWEVER, the sump will not bolt up to a normal 25, unless that 25 came from a 4wd model, as the bolt patterns between the 4wd and RWD 25's vary, the 25's only haver a bolt pattern to suit a steel sump, where as the 4wd 25's, like the 26's have both bolt patterns to suit the rwd or 4wd sumps..

beyond that its all pretty simple, gearbox crossmember, to fit a 25 box in, you'll probably need an auto silvia bolx cross member to avoid having to butcher/make a normal rb20/25 cross member working witht he 25 box, im guessing yours already has this tho..

as pointed out, you'd be better off selling everything and sourcing a 26 cut to slot in if your getting a rolling shell..

or just import another gts-t out of japan, or, locate another shell out of japan and swap all the parts over, and re register as a repaired wreck..

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
