Just wondering who on this forum is running in this years event.

After 3 years or so working as an official on the sideline there is a fair chance im in this year navigating, just waiting on entry.

few questions i wouldn't mind asking:

Do navigators need gloves?

This year I need a NR licence, but my driver wants me to complete necessary training so that in the unlikely event he is unable to drive, I take his place. What additional things do I need to do? I have heard I might have to complete 2 club days/kahnacross, but the thing that concerns me is WHAT IF THERE ISN'T TWO BETWEEN NOW AND APRIL (or im unable to).

Anyway looking forward to being there, meeting some of you guys and having a ball.

ps if anyone needs a workshop over the week (in launceston), im sure my driver wouldn't mind opening his up.

Cheers

Tim

Navs don't need gloves, you'd never be able to turn the pages reliably.

I hope to get back this year, and am on the hunt for a spot in the silly seat (would love to get a gold plate). My driver has decided to start a family and amongst other commitments he is understandably not competing again.

With regard to your license, you can also do a couple of hours at a performance driving venue, like we did, at Holden Performance Driving at Yatala, Qld, I think? That gets around finding suitable events. (Bear in mind the driving test method must be approved by SCAMS, oops, CAMS.

My Mate is goign in the Junior Targa, it's for beginers, it's 3 days or something. He is eneting an 64 Hilman hunter that runs 10 second quaters, on a stock extrnaly looking angine.

At the moment we are compleatly redoing teh head, bigger ports, new oversized valves, sleved and remachine the block to accept VG30 pistons, got some ex nascar chev rods to fit, all valvetrain has been roalised, running fuel injection, pulled 250Hp out of 1998cc

Ahhh very cool, will be great to see a silvia out there!

Just took a look at the Rookie rallye, this is the first I've heard of it. Seems to be a good thing, especially compared to say Dutton rally.

Yeah that;s the one the rookie rallye, he is hoping to win his devition so that next year he can enter the real targa.

Yeh thats what we would effectively like to do, but rather that crash from going to quick, just enjoy it and have fun, there is always sponsors out there keen to support

they need to fix their page title. it's says David Dahl... >_<

Haha everyones says that!

I've been given a car from Lotus to drive in the Targa Classic Rally, we leave the start line an hour before the competition class.

I think it will be good practise for next year when i can get out there and do the real thing in the rookie class and then step up to the competitive class.

Hopefully meet some of you down there. >_<

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
