Damo
My r33 gtst has a slight backfire when i back off the gas followed by a gargle, all coming from the exhaust. I have only had the car a week and it has always done it since then but i have put some injector cleaner in the fuel and it seems to now be worse. Is this normal for a skyline to be doing this? DREMEN
Yes this is normal, it is unburnt fuel being sent into the exhaust and igniting...... don't worry about it unless it is a HUGE bang sound Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15218-backfiring/#findComment-310101 Share on other sites
Grim
hahaha welcome to the trademark skyline sound. that sound, coupled with the induction noise of a pod filter, is enough to make my knees go weak! Damo
Sfitzy, No I have the factory setup, but do have a large exhaust rear of the cat. If all is normal then i can live with that. JimX
I haven't seen a Skyline that doesn't do it Edit: Oh, if it blows lots of black smoke, this too is normal and nothing to worry about. I met someone who drives a turbo Audi and he thought that all Skyline engines were in sh*thouse condition because of all the smoke he sees them blow, I had to educate him that it was just unburnt fuel because of running hella rich. JimX
Hehe, speaking of scaring pedestrians, I once scared the shite out of some bogun fat chick in my old XY Falcon with worked 302 Windsor and no mufflers. A bunch of boguns decided to meander across the carpark in front of me doing 5kph. It wasn't a pedestrian crossing, so I got a bit pissed off especially since they were in single file and walking slowly. When the last one (fat chick) was right in the middle of my car, I floored the accelerator and slipped the clutch a little to inch forwards about 5 cm. She just about shit her pants Don't think I can get the same effect happening again with the 'line Well, maybe if I moved forwards 1 metre instead of 5cm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15218-backfiring/#findComment-313626 Share on other sites

Mighty Highlights
I drive a Turbo Audi - but im not that guy 'line engines are pretty awesome actually, i almost got one, but they got too common. I know of one Audi A4 Turbo Quattro that blow a lot of smoke - but he has over 220kw at all four. So its a bit extreme. PS. watch out for him. RJB
Does it sound angry? Yes? Then good! Mine consistanly backfires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear changes and often if i back off from higher up in the rev rang,Lovin it. The rumble under compression is a nice sound also. It can be controlled with longer slower gear shifts.I must admit a good Ffowing exhaust and rich fuel mixture increases this, and no cat! Oh did I say no cat? Thats illegal isn't it?? LOL You don't want to much though as that can be cop bait... RJB. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15218-backfiring/#findComment-361879 Share on other sites
Zahos
I found that letting my foot slowly off the accalerator on gear changes can realy minimise backfire. So if you see the boys in blue, and you get worried, give it a try... bangahh
If your not backfiring this is what you do. not sure if it works on efi but on carby it does do not try this on public roads while in motion turn off engine. step on gas a few times and then start engine while in motion Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15218-backfiring/#findComment-365512 Share on other sites
Zahos
I dont think that would work with an EFI engine.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/15218-backfiring/#findComment-365521 Share on other sites
Damo
It doesnt work with fuel injection, but works well on my old magna. I once blew the hell out of my muffler, split it in 2. Use to do it all the time on the streets scaring pedestrians. Was great fun for a laugh.
