Just wondering if this oil is any good? I know you all recommend much more expensive oils but things are tight for me at the moment. The guy at the shop did say this oil was recently compared to Mobil 1 Synthetic and was superior.

Has anyone heard anything bad about this OIL concerning Skylines??

I am draining the shit oil out tomorrow. I have blown no smoke and cant see any leaking anywhere but on the dipstick it is getting lower. I have heard this means the motor does not like the oil it currently contains.

Also what is the model number of the NGK sparkplugs ( the normal plugs) for the 'line and what should I gap them at (I have stocker except for air filter)

Thanks people.

number for plugs is BCPR6E from memory but u should recheck

u can get it from Marlows / Repco and get a gapping tool as well ($2) and gap them to 0.8 coz they come gapped at 1.2

just under 4 bucks for one and havent had any issues with it so far (no misfiring) seems to be doing well

yeah my plugs were changed just recently - nissan come out with platinums and a few mechanics will recomend them to u but normal $4 do just as well. :D

Ive got Redline in the Skyline but my 300ZX has Visco in it and i havent had any probs with that oil :)

Mobil 1 is tried and tested amongst us so it is the go. Others have their preferences but all go for the well known brand name stuff... So there is something in that.

Plantiums are a matter of opinion. If I change normal NGK R's every 20,000 I am still saving from buying the Platiums.

Your choice.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just bought 5L of visco 5000. The specs look good on paper (https://www.distributor.bp.com.au/wls/servl...?cid=13&scid=14), but the true test is how it works out in real life use.

I've had enough of paying $50+ for Mobil 1, so I'm switching if this stuff delivers the goods. (Unless Strich9ine can get us all a piece of that $35 Mobil action :P ).

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
