the cams we fitted were secondhand. we thought that the exhaust cam may have been bent .

The cam broke behind no.3 valve. cam not hitting anything in head clearances ok. buckets removed still no turn. the new cam we installed had exactly the same problem. this did not snap this one. they are 260 by 9.15 lift. .

All the caps had no markings on them which is strange but were put back in the same order they came from.

we ran striaght edge across the tunnel and there are variations in clearance .

strange thing was the original cam when put back in was tight as well. clearanced the caps to allow to turn freely but this shouldnt have to be done.

andrew the cam is in the box with the other one.

the second

well this puts a new spin on things. Greg in my experience knows his stuff when it comes to RB26 so a simple thing like cam install would not be a problem for him. so it sounds like there may be more going on here either with the head, or the cams.

and since his business hadn't been named here in this thread at all he showed a lot of guts to post up here and explain what was going on. good work. >_<

Rb26 cams are just tricky little bastards, i have seen them snap undoing the cam caps, the thrust bearing is a real problem as are the studded caps which 1 in every ten the stud will bind up and its almost an hours work to fix that problem alone.

Good luck with the problem i would say your just having a bad run, good old Murphy is paying you a visit.

ive snapped a jun one installing it, though we had it in and out about 10-15 times atleast so that didnt help. as said above u gotta tighten it down evenly front to back or u will bend it and snap  i got some longer bolts to tighten them down as i had hd springs and kept stripping the threads in the head as the stock length bolts only go in 2 turns or so before they tighten up and going into ally = weak metal. once they are down enough i replace the longer bolts with the stock ones and have had no issues since (these cams have been in and out around 30 times now), its got to be the worst and most dreaded job on the 26 i can think of. worst thing is with my jun cams i need to take them out to get to the jun head studs :)

it seems it goes easy or it doesn't. When I did the Tomei cams in mine I was so impressed at how easy it was compared to the push rod setups I'd done in the past. I did double the number of steps in torquing the bolts off and on that nissan had in the manual, as I initially didn't have access to the manual at the time and used my intuition (usually a bad move).

thats 1 beer i owe the baron

haha, you don't owe me any beer. but on the other hand I'm not going to turn it away either. Next time I'm a little down after you blow past me on the straight at EC please provide 1 beer after the last session.

    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
