i need a cat too mate. what do you have on your car at the moment?

i want a 3" high flowing one better then the xforce ones... or a 3.5" or 4"

we should find a decent flowing one and try get them cheaper for 2...

il start looking around... if you find anything let me know.

My exhaust came with a 'racing pipe', so ive got that on at the moment. I just PM'd the guy who was doing the Metal cat groupbuy, and he said he'll check to see if he can get any others. $300 delivered for a 3.5 inch is pretty good, and im sure theyre the full deal. On ebay, the same ones are $370 delivered.

Im either going to try to make my 4 inch exhaust quiet (with removable modifications), or just buy a standard exhaust. Anyone want to sell a standard r32 exhaust??

Shaun.

Ive used a Below Standard Exsaust which my neighbour at work used to fit on MY R32 GTR IM Currently taking it off and putting my race exsaust back on ... If you need it and i dont know if its fits let me know you can come down and put it on to pass Ur noise test and Emissions ... :P

can you look into getting one for me too ? does it have the flanges?

cheers mate

Shaun - if mrgtr911 is nice enough to lend you his exaust system then i would use it for the tests as he was able to pass his gtr with it.

No worries, thanks. Where abouts are you?

I rang a few people about the exhaust thing today, and some places will hire them to you for the test. Another bloke said for $100 he'll just say there was a standard exhaust on my car and pass it.

I think i might try to modify my trust exhaust first though. Some places put a solid flange in the exhaust, but drill heaps of 10mm holes in the solid flange, significantly reducing noise. And i can also plumb my external WG in just before the cat, so that if i want to go to the 'track', i can remove the cat and vent the gate to atmo.

The metal cat is unflanged. Just jap sell the Catco 3.5" for about $440, although he said he'll do it for $400. I think Catco do a 4" as well.

Shaun.

Can i ask why you would remove all the stuff you used to pass the car for emissions and db?

If you get caught by the cops with out all that stuff you are going to get defected anyway.

Shaun im in Sydney Bankstown Area if you need any help PM ME Because im keeping the exsaust for future purposes , im Putting my old race exsaust back on but fitting a Electronice Silencer so when i get pulled over ill have less headaches..

Thats my car for sale with a list of mods i had when i passed the emissions test. only thing i had changed was Exsaust Back to standard With a standard Cat . So if i passed this believe me your in with a good chance .. Most important thing is the Tune , If i was you id go to HITMAN .. Hes a good guy And very trust worthy .. Leave the car with him for a week and hell give it back to you passed ... If you have any more problems PM ME ILL oofer my advice i went through 3 weeks of hell ...

NYTSKY, I Didnt neccesaraly Take off many things to pass Emissions , Just put Exsaust Back to stock With Stock Cat , I actually Passed the emissions And noise test With my HKS Filters , so i can tell you i had a really good exsaust on the car, Its actually smaller then a Standard One . the only problem i had was because the EPA Defected me for many Other things which made it hard, The guys at the EPA Know how to defect, Cops dont know there heads from there asses...

In Future if i do get pulled Over i have all Documents, Engineers report , Emissions Test that i have Passed , They could get me for Noise but now that i have installed a Electronice Silencer it is alot Less Noisy , but end of the day if a cop or EPA officer wants to be a Dick they can do watever they like. But this time i am fully prepared, I Have all parts For a GTR to Pass Emissions, So ill offer my help to whoever needs it As anthony ( GUILT TOY ) offeredhis help to me ...

Any more Questions ill be happy to help....

Cheers mate, at the end of the day the more legal skylines on the road the more the police will think twice before thinking they can defect the shit out of us. I like to think that skyline drivers can be different to typical bogan type commodore drivers that drive around with defectable cars and i dont mind helping anyone that needs help cos i know it aint easy to do it on your own.

Thanks for the exhaust offer, ill keep it in mind.

Now, ive just gotta figure out how to make a Tial BOV plumb back into the inlet...............

any news on this cat? i want to buy one next week

i spoke to a tuner today that recommended getting 2 high flow epa/carb's complaint cat converters installed to aid in the chance of passing emissions as opposed to 1. I'd never even considered it, anyone's thoughts?

i heard that it dont work. 2 cats would take a long time to heat up and work properly, especially seeing that after the first test they stop for 5 minutes before starting the second one the cat would cool down again.

Pretty expensive too, id imagine.

No news on the cat. Im just waiting for him to get back to me.

Shaun.

i think you will find most of the standard cats are actually "compliance cats" that the guys that get the cars past the compliance testing use to pass the "simple" emissions test. these could possibly be a catco 3 way or something similar depending on the compliancer.

HELP REQUIRED!!!

Due to a defect notice on my car & with the mods I've got I've needed to do an emissions test, BUT....

WHAT ARE THE GASEOUS LIMITS & HOW CAN I GET THEM IN WRITING!!

Need them for Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Oxygen (O2) & Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

Apart from finding Hydrocarbons to be .93 & CO to be 9.3 I'm having no luck to find the limits for oxygen or carbon dioxide. The test was originally intended for just the 2 I already have, but all 4 were tested so all could be good enough to hand in with my engineers report, but also need the proof it complies with the other 2 as well.

If anyone can help me out with this that would be great, as I've already lost a couple of weeks over xmas & new years (workshop holidays) in which time I could have had this handed in already. Only got until the 22nd to drive my car so looking to get it done asap so I can hand it in (ie next couple of days)

Cheers, Nathan

Howdy Ossie ! Spewin about the defect...

Did you read the whole thread? what year model is your car? I am pretty sure i put down the limits for the tests for my 95 model car and i think those figures are from around 91 to 98 year models.

You should call the RTA and ask them, they gave me the figures i needed while i was getting the test.

From memory i think the NOX can be 1.93 for the 91 to 98 year models..... go back and read my posts, its in there somewhere.

let me know if you need any help.

    • Have you not seen geospy.ai? It can now give GPS co ords to within a metre from a photo, even if it's a random photo you take inside. Supposedly at the moment only the government/law enforcement has access to that... Supposedly...
    • I've got the rear ones, they're certainly beefy. I need to take them to my driveshaft guru to check over, he's very fussy about the quality of components so I'll let you know if they are made of cheese by a blind man.   Are you in Australia? A mate just had a set of EN26 shafts made for his K20 Lotus by our fabricator which were quite cheap (compared to Driveshaft Shop) so if you can procure the CV's and draw what you need he'd make them for ~$800 for the pair.
    • Had I known the diff between R32 and R33 suspension I would have R33 suspension. That ship has sailed so I'm doing my best to replicate a drop spindle without spending $4k on a Billet one.
    • OEM suspension starts to bind as soon as the car gets away from stock height. I locked in the caster and camber before cutting off the kingpin. I then let the upright down in a natural (unbound) state before re-attaching it. Now it moves freely in bump and droop relative to the new ride height. My plan is to add GKTech arms before the car is finished so I can dial camber and caster further. It will be fine. This isn't rocket science. Caster looks good, camber is good, upper arm doesn't cause crazy gain and it is now closer to the stock angle and bump steer checks out. Send it.
    • Pay careful attention to the kinematics of that upper arm. The bloody things don't work properly even on a normal stock height R32. Nissan really screwed the pooch on that one. The fixes have included changing the hole locations on the bracket to change the angle of the inner pivot (which was fairly successful but usually makes it impossible to install or remove the arm without unbolting the bracket from the tower, which sucks) and various swivelling upper arm designs. ALL the swivelling upper arm designs that look like a capital I (with serifs) suck. All of them. Some of them are in fact terribly unsafe. Even the best one of them (the old UAS design) shat itself in short order on my car. The only upper arm that works as advertised and is pretty safe is the GKTech one. But it is high maintenance on a street car. I'm guessing that a 600HP car as (stupidly, IMO) low as you are going is not going to be a regular driver. So the maintenance issues on suspension parts are probably not going to be a problem. But you really must make sure that however your fairly drastically modded suspension ends up, that the upper arms swing through an arc that wants to keep the inner and outer bolts parallel. If the outer end travels through an arc that makes that end's bolt want to skew away from parallel with the inner bolt, you will build up enormous binding and compressing forces in the bushes, chew them out and hate life. The suspension compliance can actually be dominated by the bush binding, not the spring rate! It may be the case that even something like the GKTech arm won't work if your suspension kinematics become too weird, courtesy of all the cut and shut going on. Although you at least say there's no binding now, so maybe you're OK. Seeing as you're in the build phase, you could consider using R33/4 type upper arms (either that actual arm, OEM or aftermarket) or any similar wishbone designed to suit your available space, so alleviate the silliness of the R32 design. Then you can locate your inner pivots to provide the correct kinematics (camber gain on compression, etc).
