Last friday I installed a Gates Racing timing belt, new idler& tensioner pulleys (and idler pulley bolt), aswel as a new Tomei adjustable exhaust cam gear (now set at 4degrees retarded).

Had the car re-tuned today to suit the new adjustment. Last dyno run made 248kw

now makes 260kw :D im stoked with the result! power comes on earlier, smother, and with a touch less boost (17 psi rather than 18). All my runs are on BP ultimate 98 octain fuel.

theres a few pics below of the belt, cam gear & dyno sheet.

for those who dont know...the cars basics: Stock engine

pod filter

FMIC

AVO hi-flow turbo

big injectors

big fuel pump

adj fuel reg

tuneable ecu

turbo back 80mm zaust & hiflow cat

do you find it a big boggy now that youve taken off the factory VTC solenoid ?

VTC is still there (just not in the photo). Its more resposive than its ever been now

Just a few questions:

1) Did u consider adding an injector instead of getting 6 bigger ones? Is so y did u choose to go bigger

2) How much more can ur highflow turbo do?

3) At what point do u reckon ull start to need to do internals?

1) No. Maxed out my stock ones at 220kw...so got bigger. Only $20 difference btw 550 & 840 so I just chose the bigger because I know there a pain to change an now i'll never have to do it again :(

2) the turbo can be pushed to about 22psi safely....but my head gasket can cope with that as its still stock.

3) most people say at about 280-300kw is where you should be looking into forged pistons (even though the stock ones are forged) and better rods (most people use linished GTR rod)

So by retarding the exhaust cam 4degrees, you gained 20kw atw?

Nice work.

aswel as re-tuning the car to suit :)

Yeah, I was over the moon! my tuner cant believe the power my car makes with stock engine an small turbo. Its averaging around 12.5 A/F ratio under load too which is still a safe tune. could get more if i leaned it off an ran more boost....but i dont want to. Maybe for a few runs on the Dyno at Autosalon to impress...hehe

thanks mate!

No real plans for further power. more power = bigger turbo & engine bottomend rebuild to cope = expensive

just hunting down some nice rims now an thats about it

just having fun with it this year, few deca days track day & drift training days....

by tunable i mean aftermarket. I run a microtech LTS-12 :(

looks like now with that little extra power im in need of a catch can....few reports of seeing blue smoke from my car after full throttle acceleration then backing off....its creating a bit too much pressure an the oils getting by, so catch can will rectify this.

thanks to those for letting me know

Yeah I was tellin Kris about that...I was behind you and was coppin a fair amount of blue smoke...thought somethin might have been wrong...then a few times right after the blue smoke would be a pretty thick puff of thick white smoke...

nice result mate....got mine sitting there and was going to to the belt soon...

I saw the blue smoke when u backked off...was going to pm u about it but forgot...

nice result...I hope I get some similar gains...will try with a de-cat setup just for the dyno to see the difference between my hi-flo cat and nothing...

    • These coils draw 10amps that what i read online
    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
    • I'm interested,do you still have it?
