Hi all,

I've been a forum member for a year or two, but have only been lurking until now. Apologies if this is in the wrong area.

I'm thinking about building an R32 GTS for rallying. You're probably wondering why N/A. Basically beacuse I can build it lighter and it doesn't need huge amounts of grunt. A GTR is out of the question because the minimum weight is way too high (1590kg)

Now for a heap of questions....

How light can you reasonably expect to build an R32? We're allowed to strip interior, remove sound deadening etc, but it would have a comprehensive cage and seam welding, plus a few other strengthening things done. The minimum weight for the capacity is 1030kg, but I'd be happy if I could get it under 1200kg. If I can't get it under 1200, I'd consider building a GTS-T instead.

What will an RB25DE safely rev to?

I've been told that RB25DEs have a cast crank. Are the RB25DET or RB26DETT cranks steel? If so, will one of them slot in, and does the RB26DETT have the same stroke?

Will GTR throttle bodies/manifold bolt on to an RB25DE head? If so, what throat and port diameters are they?

What should I reasonably expect to pay for an R32 GTS landed in aus, for rally only?

If anyone has a GTS rolling shell that they want to get rid of, I'd like to hear from you.

Also, a couple of years back, I met a bloke from the Blue Mountains that was running a dark silver GTS-T with GLT sponsorship (at a state motorkhana @ Nirimba). If he could make himself known to me, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks.

Dude, I am doing exactly this over in NZ.

I've got an R32 GTS Coupe that I'm building to rally.

Have a look here

http://www.skylinesdownunder.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=52581

As far as weight goes mine was down to 1160kg, stripped out with the facory front seats in and about 50ltrs of fuel on board. My main worry about using a Skyline on gravel id the poor weight split between front and rear. I think an SR20 would help this a bit, but I love the sound of an RB @8000rpm too much!

The car now has a full cage in it and just a single race seat, so I must get around to weighing it again.

I haven't seam welded mine, but I have had the cage stiched into the pillars etc and will be building suspension braces too.

I don't know about an RB25, but a mate has an RB20DE-t thats revs happily to 8,500rpm with a stock bottom end. My car just has an RB20DE and it's happy to rev the same.

Hope some of this helps.

Cheers

Shane

I'm guessing you'll come out at around the same weight after the cage

Yeah our production car GTR weights a little over factory now it has the cage in. But the rally rules are a whole different world.

Given you are looking for light, n/a and rwd, why not look into a S13 silvia na, they are dirt cheap and should be easy to get parts for. Also plenty of people race teh sr20 so there is lots of aftermarket/race stuff to choose from

Problem is that (IMO) the S13s are butt ugly.

Screamin - Any idea what the weight split is? Have you done corner weights?

I haven't managed to find the weight split info anywhere (not that I've looked too hard).

I'm assuming that the RB20 wouldn't be that much lighter than the RB25???

There's a lot more to consider when you are into motorsport, as to which looks good or not. Personally looks would be the least of my priorities. The main things to consider is balance / suspension and ease to work on these components.

No need to tell me that. I've been competing for 21 years and have picked up a few state and national class titles along the way. :)

If I'm going to spend that much time with it, I at least need to be able to look at it in the morning.

Having grown up with Renaults, most Jap stuff is easy to work on and (relatively) well balanced. Rather than go out and buy one, then find out it's all wrong, I'm trying to work out what the starting point is and what I can do to "fix" it's shortfalls. If it's too much of a hassle, I'll probably update what I already have, as they're a known quantity and easy to get good speed out of.

I know exactly how fast an S12 can be in the forest and on the track. I've run against the black S13 and wasn't impressed by it. I like the sound of a NA Nissan 6 at full throttle, and I have a soft spot for Skylines. If it's workable, I might start on it. If not, there are other options.

I have a feeling the weight split is something horrendus like 70/30.

I haven't done my weights yet, as I have some new suspension parts to install first.

One of the local racecar fabricators doesn't think the weight split will be a problem, just have to get the weight jacking correct and the right spring rate. He suspected the rear would have to be set up very soft.

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
