Hi Guys,

Over the last 12 months or so the amount of threads being created for weird and stupid topics has increased.

This is mostly our (the Mods) fault as we have not been closing them and the level of acceptability for these threads has slipped accordingly.

Time to raise the bar again guys.

A few quick guidlines to esure your thread lives a long and healthy life (guidlines only, not hard and fast rules or laws)

  1. Please do a search if you need to find some thing out
  2. Search again and again
  3. Use the main forum sections to post questions like - What turbo should I buy? or Who can tune my power FC? The people in those sections will give you a much better answer also
  4. If you are new to SAU please introduce yourself in the Noob thread

Thanks for your help with this, I know we'll all appreciate a more on topic site.

M

Let us thake this oportunity also for questions...

If anyone has any questions for us that you think others may also benifit from the answer please post it here and we will answer asap...

Please ask anything I promise you wont be flamed, this could be a great oportunity to air some consirns...

What about merging topics without permision?

Back on track, you are going to have to accept that some people may actually want recommendations on where to tune there pfc or ecu in that regards to QLD, on another note, What about bringing up old threads, Aren't you concerned that if people search and find it they have more questions so they bring up an old thread, People get flamed, warned and sometimes banned for this? How are you going to combat this concern, Not only if there usually new to the forums, they are usually new to the search engine on this site, Gotta give these people some go. Not only Some topics if you search for specific answers no matter how much u refine it Can come up with 100s of pages or over 30 some times, that leads to frustration as well as who wants to go through 30 pages just to find what they are looking for.

On another note, the idea of these forums and most new threads are to give share information, and moderators and users if your frustrated in trying to answer these questions for these new/old ones maybe have a look at your position and then say be able to point these people in the right direction?

On another note, Mud maybe have a look at some of the other forums, Cant you notice anything, i bloody can look and NSW area always active, aren't you concerned that you will kill activity, i say u will as its getting that way now on this and people are venturing else where i say.

On another note, what happened to freedom of speech? yes some topics are pointless, but some are not.

I have so many questions that can be answered. What about if these "rules" if youd like to say are should be followed, what about Yourself and Other moderators do something to help live'n up the place here? This may actually help the cause? I just cant believe yes some things need control some things dont, and because theres no up top input for things ideas that can actually make this place better i feel that this is just going to drag this further and further away from people

i think you will find that basically the QLD section is going to become redundant as nobody will be allowed to post anything, so will stop coming here

Got it in one..

Stop new topics and you stop any interest in this area. Even if they are stupid, you don't have to read them, or you can block the poster if you really find their posts continuously annoying.

Agreed

Also agrre with the search as well...

I have searched for stuff and had to wade through 320 pages of crap to find out what i actually needed. I did find it..............eventually.........

ok... i have a question...

what are we actually allowed to post then?

i think you will find that basically the QLD section is going to become redundant as nobody will be allowed to post anything, so will stop coming here

You can post anything that is related to Skylines and Queensland.

What about merging topics without permision?
it wasn't me, but if something gets merged, moved or deleted we dont need permission

Nope, most old threads answering questions have run their course and pretty much covered it all.

Go ahead and ask questions but all I ask is you have a quick search 1st,

How are you going to combat this concern, Not only if there usually new to the forums, they are usually new to the search engine on this site, Gotta give these people some go. So how do you search for anything else on the net? do you just start a new thread in google?

Fair enough you not might always find an answer, so state that in the new thread.

On another note, the idea of these forums and most new threads are to give share information, and moderators and users if your frustrated in trying to answer these questions for these new/old ones maybe have a look at your position and then say be able to point these people in the right direction?

Absolutely, we're all here to help. But we need to help ourselves before we can help others.

I'm not a clown.

Heres another rule for you to follow,

If you have multiple things to say continously in one thread, then edit your post.

No need to whore a thread.

..that hasn't already been covered right?

...everything has been covered.

Lets just close the whole queensland general area altogether then.

consider it done.

Just dont start new threads and then we dont need mods...

Thats the way!

I agree with Azzurra and the guys, I thought the QLD section was for members who know each other (from the dinners etc) to have a chat on a day to day basis. I agree that becoming strictly Skyline discussions will kill the QLD forum.

If you want detailed Skyline info the main forum covers it.

I enjoy reading a funny story from someone's weekend, or something they may want to share.

Paul

Not a question, but I agree with much of what Mud & Col are trying to say. There aren't many days when I come on here and don't see a thread started for something completely useless, in the wrong section or already covered 11ty billions times before. QLD never use to be dead, but at the same time it didn't contain the amount of garbage it does atm. Stopping stupid threads doesn't stop conversation, just useless conversation that could be had in whoretown.

1 time or 11ty aquillion, Who are they hurting. Noobs want to feel part of the scene but nothing will turn them away faster than being told...GO SEARCH. You may as well come straight out and just tell them to f**k orf.

Who are they hurting by asking repeat questions. As i have said before and you concur, There is no question re a skyline that hasnt been asked on these boards. So, Lets just put a sticky on every sub forum right across the board. !DONT ASK....JUST SEARCH. Lets see how long the forum lasts then.

Is this forum a commercial; venture, If its driven by profit then come right out and say so and we will all stop using valuable bandwidth. Once again it will soon disappear along with the profit.

If you want it to continue to grow then encourage the noobs to ask their questions. It may seem old hat to you but to them its an exciting new world of skylines and related matters. Be happy for them, Be happy that you as an old schooler can answer their questions and make them feel wanted here.

As for devils advocate and the treatment he recieved on his thread, i think that was an outrage. Here is a guy trying to inject some new enthusiasm in to sunday cruising and he gets the rug pulled out from under him. I would be pissed too. Particularly at the response to his query as to who did it and why.

I have been on forums basically since the beginning of the net and i have seen them come and go, Those that stay tend to display a far more mod tolerant atitude to new folk than what i have witnessed here.

That's correct FineLine

Not all of us have been in the scene for years and are new to skylines......

Ok I have search for stuff and been unable (maybe cos I am just stupid) to find some of the things that i have been looking for... So, i ask a question. Hopefuly someone has had the same problem that I have or has some valuable input to the topic at hand (whatever that may be)

I have had some fantastic help from the peeps on th SAU forum and it is great to see them trying to help out the new kids on the block.

I paid for my QLD membership so that I can meet new people (when i can get that far south) and learn from them....

i don't really care if I get flamed for being a noob as I may be new to the SKyline scene, but not new to the modification scene....... I have had some very quick cars in the past and in those days we didn'y have a great forum like SAU to ask stupid questions in!!!!!

It would be a real shame if we couldn't still rely on the good QLD SAAU folk to help out!!!

Most of the people on this forum do a great job and ARE willing to help each other out....

    • I have been being VERY quiet about what you're alluding to, as it is something that ticks me off... The number of cars from factory that run coil overs is HUGE! Most of them these days do... The other part that annoys me, is people saying "Well all the incabin adjustable suspension is illegal by blah blah blah"... If that's the case, then why can I buy a car brand new that can do it if, FULL STOP in cabin adjustable suspension is illegal...   Also, I could just chuck some aftermarket shocks in my car, throw the stock springs on, after my blue slip, dump my super low springs back in. Same shock and spring style setup... Hell, they could also be the same colour springs etc.     I'm voting, BlueSlipper didn't want to touch the above car for some reason. Whether it be some sort of bias against the car, the owner, them maybe having previously done dodgy shit and now they're being super careful in case they get slapped in the face by the Gumbyment again... Find a new blueslip place.   And can confirm as you had said, yes there are holy bibles of vehicle heights, and all sorts of other suspension stuff. Heck your run of the mill mechanic, and tyre shop has access to all of that stuff. It's how they do wheel alignments...
    • Funny story Heading to Sydney this morning on the HWY there was some slow traffic, so I gave it the beans and midway through my overtaking "power run" I lost all power It seems that I missed a hose clamp,  and the MAF and filter went WiFi To make this more problematic, the little tool kit that lives in the boot, is sitting in the sun room at Goulburn......LOL Luckily for me I found a bit of steel on the side of the road that could be used like a rusty and bent flat head screw driver to tighten it up enough that it got me into Sydney, it is now all tight like a tiger with the aid of a 8mm socket Note to self: Use my brain and double check stuff, and always keep that little tool kit in the car for when I have a brain fart
    • Oh, and as for everyone with their fuel economy changes, I switch between E10 and 98 in the company car. Even do when I had personal cars that could run on E10. You know what changed my fuel economy in any noticeable way? How I drove, and where I drove. Otherwise, say on full tanks of just back and forth from work only (So same trips, same sort of traffic), couldn't notice a difference that I can correlate to the type of fuel in use. In the current vehicle, that's over 42L of USABLE fuel. While 98 is all "more energy dense", it also has higher knock resistance as it takes more energy to get it to ignite too. The longer hydrocarbons, typically more tightly bound. So running the same ignition map, can also produce less power, if there isn't enough time to get it all burnt through properly, as yep, the flame propagation speed is different from lower octane fuel to higher (Higher has a lower flame propagation, due to the more tightly bound and harder to self ignite funs. This is also typically where, a vehicle that is designed purely to run on 91 (Whether it be E10 or normal 91) usually sees absolutely no real world difference in fuel economy for the normal man, woman, or dog.
    • We've got some servos around me that have 91 with E10, 91 (no E10), 95, and 98. At those stations the change from 91 E10 to 91, is typically around 8c/L.   But lets not get started on the price of fuel in Oz. It's ridiculous. All the service stations around me, bar one, the price of fuel has been over the $2 mark per litre for the cheapest, 98 being around $2.45. That one service station is a CostCo, fuel from it comes from the same refineries, and makes no pitstops, it runs great, including the 98. In fact, I've had no issues on CostCo fuel, but plenty of issues at other stations!. The CostCo fuel, was $1.65 roughly this week for 94 with E10. $1.88 for 98. Servos directly across from it, $2.10 for 91 E10, and $2.48 for 98. The part I had to laugh at? If I drive multiple HOURS away from Brisbane, say out near Nanango, or Kingaroy, or even out to Goondiwindi, the price of their fuel, is the same as what it is at the CostCo... Oh, and that BP servo at Goondiwindi is HUGE and goes through epic turnover of fuel, so it's not sitting there for weeks going to shit. And what blows me away, my mate is one of the people who drives the Fuel Tanker all around QLD, delivering to all those places. At the same company his previous role was doing the "local haul" deliveries... Same truck, same driver, same pickup point it all comes from. So you tell me, how the hell it is 60c/L CHEAPER for fuel, when nearly all else is equal, except they require a B-Double to drive half a day out of Brisbane, and half a day back, every second day, compared to the delivery that can be under 30 minutes drive from the fuel pickup point... Not to mention, go five blocks down the road, and Ampol to Ampol will vary 30c/L... And I've had this conversation with my mate... The way it's priced, is just typical, pure and utter rubbish... He also does runs from Brisbane, to all over QLD, down to Newcastle, Sydney, Nowra, Melbourne, Geelong, and even out to parts of the NT depending on the companies needs. His main stuff is all the longer distance away from home for a few days at a time, then when he's back, he loves to just pickup extra shifts wherever he can in whichever truck, hence all the weird different places.   Oh, as for getting E10 into all the fuels in Australia... It was very quickly highlighted, that we don't have enough biomass available to use to make E10 sustainably like they require, and it would dramatically cut into our, and the worlds food chain supply...   I vote we all just start running on liquid methane gas... Plenty of that just getting tapped off at tips from underground decay... (Note, this is pure just stupid commenting. I could very easily highlight the reasons its not a good idea especially on scale...)
    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
