I'd imagine most heat into the manifold would be conducted via the block, and as such there aren't many options for keeping it cool. If your going for an aftermarket plenum then the thinwalled ones(Subzero style) would have less latent heat and cool much quicker.

yer Adam - although this time it's a coil pack.

Given that the wiring harness is also very brittle I suspect that the R did some sustained hard work (ie high engine temps for long periods) in Japland. Finding race harness bolts behind the driver's seat supports this theory.

I'm looking into some Spitfire coils ATM, and plan to keep the center cover off for cooling.

Gav, another thought on cooling the coil packs that I've seen done on an RB25 is to keep the centre cover on, but cut some vent holes in them and stick some painted wire mesh to the underside. The one I saw looked very slick an almost factory. Pretty sure is was on a Silvia featured in one of the recent HPI magazines (with a red R34 GT-R on the front). Will see if I can dig it out and scan in.

Cheers

Brendan

Given that the original coils are now 10 years old (and as I said suspected that they had a hard life), I'd be happy to get 10 years out of a replacement set.

Does anyone have information on the Splitfire coils for the GTR?

Are these a straight plug in replacement that uses factory harness connectors, exciter etc?

There isn't a lot of information around on the GT-R SplitFire coilpacks. They're assumed to be a fairly rare item. They are however a plug-and-pray item. Saw a set installed into Jeff's S15 in about 10mins.

Cheers

Brendan

    • Yeah I also looked at Plazmaman, but, it ended up alot  cheaper getting black ones through EFI when you also added in the delivery cost
    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
