Hi guys,

I recently installed a Gizzmo IBC in my 1993 R33 GTST (exhaust,FMIC, HKS pod filter(OMG)) And i cant stop the boost surging when accelerating. I have tried just about all the dutycycle settings up to about 45% with gain set at 0 and it still continues to surge. For some reason i cant get a stable boost setting.

Only other thing is i did disconnect my battery while install so it is possible standard ecu reset but i doubt this would cause this problem

Any thoughts appreciated!

(cheers in advance)

Interesting.. my turbo also surges.. and i have a Gizzmo ebc,

However my car was also surging before i had the ebc.

But i would be interested to see weather the gizzmo is causeing some problems or not..

Was your car surging before the EBC, did u do another modifcation at the same time?

and also. when u mean sruging do u mean. it starts building boost, then all the suddens the car jolts rapidly and the boost needle bounces up and down until u back off?

well i have a gizzmo, and it's been far better then anything i have ever head. If you are running a stock turnbo a large free flowing exhaust and performance mods, the stock wastgate does not flow enough gas to bleed boost off. Stock turbos tend to get boost spikes. NOT in ALLL cases, but many just do.

I have a Gizzmo IBC set to 8, 10, 12 and 14psi and it holds these well.

The surging usually occurs when the car is starting to overboost and the IBC tries to cut it back a bit, this usually only occurs if you run a too high gain on it, but at 0 it should do it.

I have recently ported my wastgate and man what a differance, the boost is dam steady now.

All IBC will spike a bit, well rise a bit, in colder weather too, so you will have to readjust a bit later on.

As to the surging, that is weird, i preatty much know the ins and outs of these things, as i wasn't happy with mine at first, unitll i figured out how to use it properly.

Where are you getting your boost feed from for teh actuator, and where is the boost guage hooked up to.

ALSO, what computer you are using. Stock computers will hunt down low on increased boost due to R&R

Its pretty much plumbed up as the instructions say so. Hose off of the intake pipe - solenoid - actuator. Boost guage is tapped off of a T connector at the intake then goes to my gizzmo IBC. Stock ECU, i still have stock dump pipe with 3in catback exhaust. Im very frustrated now aahhhhh.......

It didnt surge before the IBC install and the wastegate always held the standard boost.

ive got a gizmo. there pretty crap but better than nuthin .

Interesting as the gizzmo is actually the best controller ive used other than the BLITZ SBC's. I highly rate it and have personally installed maybe 25 or so. Out of the 1000 or so we have sold maybe 4 or 5 have had issues..... 99.9% of the time it all comes down to settings if you set it up badly it behaves badly.

i suggest going back through the learning procedure, if this is still no go give RAY a call at Gizzmo Electronics Ltd Phone: +61 3 93577640 he is a absolute electronic genius and it is his product so call get you sorted in the blink of an eye. Just to let you know each unit it bench tested and calibrated before packaging to ensure 100% functionality.

i have done a lot of testing with these things as i am very one eyed towards jap but after seeing and using the GIZZMO product i can honestly say it is a $699 controller (control and function wise) at a $399 price point.....

Just for refferrence APEXI USA sells the IBC as an upgrade from the AVCR and APEXI USA is the US GIZZMO distributer.

Should you be able to get the boost you want with dutycycle at say 40 and the gain set at 0? Even with the duty set at 30 or 35 and gain at maybe 2 or 4 it still seems to surge up then backs off to around standard boost 7-8psi. Maybe my stock actuator aint up to the task! The only time i did get around 10psi was when i had the duty at around 50 and gain at around 42 but it would overshoot to 12psi most of the time, when the gain was backed off i then wouldnt get even 10psi anymore. Could someone actually post up one of there settings for around 10psi thanks so i can give that a try?

Thanks for all your suggestions guys its appreciated muchly!!

WOO-HOO!! I new these sounded like a good unit. Now if I can just find someone who knows how to set it up in NSW I'll install the bastard!!

Any ideas people? Central Coast, Sydney or Newcastle would be great.

Slightly off topic, but when alot of Rb20 biys upgrade to an RB25 turbo and keep the RB25 actuator they have boost issues. Perhaps the Rb25 actuator becides being set to a lower boost pressure is somewhat reliant on that factory boost soleniod.....NFI why, could always try boreing out the bleed hole in the diafram???? Or just put a 20 actuator on there with the EBC and see how it goes.....just a suggestion

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
