I'm almost ready to buy a stagea, i'd say in the next month or so definatley.

i dont think i have enough money for compliance at the moment tho. but can afford the car and all the costs to get it here.

can i still import the car, get it home keep it there untill i can afford compliance??

and anyone got a rough guestimate on compliance cost for a 1999-2000 stagea?

Cheers

yeah i thought so.. 1% rise is only really 50 or so bucks so waiting for the dollar to move isnt really that cost effective

i might post in the stagea forum. about cost of compliance. i budgeted around 4-5k....

Although there's a time limit on compliance, most RAWS require you to bring the vehicle once it's left the docks because if the car isn't being complied, that's one less plate available to them.

Try the Imports101 website. It has a good cost calculator that actually includes all the necessary items for your state. (Whatever that is).

You may be surprised by how much difference to the end result the change in the value of the yen makes when it goes from, say 96 to 97 to the dollar. It works out to be quite a bit more than $50....

Buy one locally in aust now i reckon, prices have plumitted. Plus unlike the experiences i had, you can see and drive the car, take it to a mechanic and all other things before you buy it

Otherwise you might get the "one-in-a-million" car with a f**ked engine like i did

To be honest the calculator is actually pretty good. But at the end of the day it is only as good as the accuracy of the FOB price you put into it.

Unlike alot of calculators the Imports101 one lists all of the stuff you will end up spending money on. It doesn't neglect stuff & assume you live in Queensland (Which is the cheapest state to get an import into)

yeah i understand the whole try before you buy here. but there isnt too many leather stageas out there for under 18k and thats what i want!

yeah looking at the calculator it does seem good! minus the 600ish for their fees :P

You need a permit from FORS to import it, it would be a prohibited import without one. they only cost fifty bucks, but they can only be issued to a RAWS for post '88 cars- most will want a deposit as well, usually around a grand. Stageas are around $2500 + tyres to comply, depending on the RAWS and how much extra work hasto be done, like remove/refit mods etc.

Bikkies you might want to update your info before you post. FORS hasn't been around for years and aren't responsible for issuance of the import approval.

DOTARS then- force of habit from having to deal with the sods for years- went through all the rigamarole to get low volume certification on SWB V8 Land Rovers, took four years and about 100K then the arse fell out of the dollar. Not my favourite organisation.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).

    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
