Ok, Gorge Road through Adelaide Hills to Birdwood.

MODS: My mods list, with added greddy emanage ultimate and a sydneykid handling kit, and 18 inch racinghart cr's.

I have no idea about the Celica, f**k knows how to get na Celica to 110kw, I think its stock, but im guessing it has coilovers and all sorts of junk to make the car handle well.

My Mate said its had more money thrown at handling than ive seen in my bank account. and u cant throw 16,000 to a celica's handling, so im assuming anywhere between 5-7 thousand.

I guess you are right, I couldn't care less if this other car wins, in the end its a god damn celica...

Skylines shit all over Celicas IMO.

I guess I care abit because im trying to make my car a really good handler, I cant believe that after the handling mods I am going to do, there is some pissy shit celica that can beat it at 110kw.

shit my R34 is non turbo auto and i have raced new v8s and munched them off the line and pulled away from them..... its all about driver ability in the end......

like i said my bog stock non turbo automatic 96.5Kw RB25DE has decimated 300+Kw v8s makes me scratch my head to this date but meh.... just driver ability in the end

Mate theres a simple explanation for that one..

1) He had a can of coke stuck under his accel pedal..

2) He didnt realise you were even beside him (try turning up the subs bra)

3) His fuel tank was low so he didnt bother

P.S. I had a Corolla Sportivo (same engine as new shape celica) before my skyline.. and it had 112kws ATW

All thats required for that power is a Cold Air Intake..

Most are running high 14's and handle friggen well with a bit of suspension work

so i wouldnt be suprised if a celica could outpace a skyline through the twistes...

ive seen this happen in real life except it wasnt a celica it was a sprinter, my mate has a sprinter with a standard motor with a set of coilovers and he over took a certain 403hp r32 skyline going up mt tamborine and then again going down the mountain so it can happen power is irrelevant when it comes to things like that I see it happen all the time

my mates got an ae40 or something corolla old metal body thing... very lightly modded no engine mods at all. and he beats gtrs and everything on mountain runs but he really knows how to drive his car ey... beats v8's and everything and a festiva could beat him in a straight line

OH NO MY FRIEND TRUST ME THEY WERE RACING ME AS WELL!!!! THEY WERE THE ONES THAT STARTED THE REVVING AT THE LIGHTS AND WAS GIVING THEIR CARS THE DICK BUT THEY JUST COULDNT DRIVE......

I had a LT1600 1970's celica (being 6ft8 it was qite funy), loved it.

In adelaide there is a nice 1970's LT2000 with turbo engine upgrade, suspn, brakes etc. Looks mean, its finished in a nice red paintjob.

With the right driving style and the correct road/weather conditions, yeah that celica certainly could wipe a skyline thru some twisties. i think.

This is not about kw or max power, its more about average power, response and mainly suspension setup, as others have said.

vvti, vtec whatever are all well and good for the cars they are in but most of the smaller cars mentioned are ONLY any good because they dont weigh much. Show me a vtec engine with decent torque - they have very good kw but not a lot of torque. They are great in a very lightweight car but put one in a 1650kg wagon and see how fast it isn't (oops, offtopic, the stagea is not exactly going to win any hills driving competitions either lol!). I guess what i'm saying is its not about the engine so much in this case. Its more about how good your car handles and performs as an overall package. Is it the lighter, FWD, slower car, or the much quicker yet heavier, RWD car? it could go either way if you can see what I'm saying.

On the other hand, turbo's aren't all that great for hills driving unless they are responsive, and have very minimal or no lag (so a big turbo giving a nice big max kw figure isn't that helpful if its laggy)....and then there's the element as mentioned before about the driver's willingness to risk their life pushing their car to the limit.

As a side note: Nissan's VCT (or whatever its called now) may not be exactly on par with toyota/honda, but they still put out a lot of power compared to others in their class. Latest Nissan 350Z = 230kw & 360N-m. RB25DE neo - 145kw (cant remember what torque it had, not huge but ok for 2.5L n/a engine!!), VQ25DE = ~160kw!!

Still not sure if this thread is about *theoretically* what car is quicker through the hills or in reality who is more likely to push their car harder through the hills (and take risks). Cant really answer that one...but if it was me I'd be letting the celica go right ahead (i like my car / safety too much  )

What if we took the physical hills (ie. the danger aspect) out of the equation and put it on a track with same corners/slopes etc. - would that change anything? I think it would.

Does it really matter? at the end of the day its just a sillycar
celicas are for hairdressers.

that is all.

Given how smug some of you are about coming behind a hairdresser, wouldn't that make you a bunch of fags too?

Or do you guys subscribe to the "As long as you're not taking it you're not gay" mentality?

Every time I hear someone bleat on about how "at least I'm not in a xxxxx" when their vaunted "sports car" gets chopped by something less famous, it just smells of the desperate insecurity of someone who realises that they're car isn't the avatar of god they'd like to think it is.....or they're just shit behind the wheel.

it was probably an sx with a 3sgte conversion. This type of setup will be much lighter than a gt4, therefore being fairly quick. But in a staright line, not much traction, especially in the wet.

I dont know if that was aimed at me or not but my comment was purely a who cares if its faster or not He obviously bought a Skyline becasue he likes a skyline and his mate bought a celica because he likes a celica.

There are always going to be things better out there than what you have the point I was trying to convey was you should be happy with what you have. I for one like Toyotas as well as many other makes and models of cars. I dont think Nissans are the be all and end all of cars.

For the record the reason I call it a sillycar is my mates missus has one and I guess the name has rubbed off on me.

And the gay comment along with the other garbage wasnt really needed was it? Your post lost credibilty the moment you posted that crap!

    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools. Buy Genuine Nissan 48700JF00D (48700-JF00D) Lock Set-Steering. Prices, fast shipping, photos, weight - Amayama
    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
