IF you want the BEST turbo available on the market, bar none, its the Apexi RX6B series.

Blistering response, massive power potential. But you pay through the nose.

Unquestionably best of the best for response and good power.

The Apexi turbo will make 280 rwkw and better than stock response on a skyline.

really this is new......

thats a big call for response even though i love the apexi turbo ... the rx6 with a p22 housing will still be laggy and it wont be as responsive as the stock turbo ..the rx6 is still very responsive as big turbo's go hey ill even say its awesome but it still wont be as respnsive as a 2835pro s or 3037 pro s.. the apexi turbo will make over 280rwkw no probs with that exhaust housing but bottom end beware!

ohh and the full kit for apexi costs over 7k but u also get the exhaust manifold...(they crack also..)

from what i've been doing more research the RX6 seems to be laggy and very expensive. but hit boost hard.

Will i definatly need a standalone ecu even though i have an SAFC or would i need to tune other stuff and get rid of RNR?

do i need bigger injectors and other stuff aswell :happy:?

There's f**k all info on apexi turbo's around and they cost a fair bit!

HKS gtr-s has come down heaps in price lately, awsome turbo.

gcg is ok, i have my opinions about it but it will make decent power no problems.

Mates R33 (rb25) has full boost by 3000rpm and 350rwhp on a measley 1.1bar (15.5-16psi).

My old GCG made 310ishrwhp by was fairly laggy on my tired r32 (rb20) running 20psi. Not really a good comparison hehe

Peronsally im going to fork out for the hks turbo, just not for awhile!

Response is awesome, I've got mates with bigger turbos on various different flavours of car, and on anything other than the drag strip mine is the quicker all-round package. not quite the same "shove in the back" factor though. If i had the choice again, I'd probably go with the 2835 ProS for the few extra $$, but that's just because i'm used to the power now.

re: GCG Vs GTRS - I researched this a lot, and i'm sure a lot of others have too.. at the end of the day the power outputs are similar enough to be the same; the GTRS maaaay be a wee bit more responsive, but there's really nothing in it.

But remember on the RB25 with that sort of power you're really pushing the limits of the stock injectors, and the stock AFM.

You'll find quite a lot of the guys with these, and larger turbos, have done the PowerFC/Injectors/AFM/Fuel pump upgrade gig.

edit : yep, i've got fuel pump / injectors / AFM / coilpacks / ECU etc ,run up to 17-18psi (but 15psi day to day)

but i DO know of a guy with a GTRS with just a SAFC and no other supporting mods.. he's had it over a year now with no dramas. yet.

260rwkw was on an r33 rb25 and also only on that boost, bump it up a few more psi and abit more aggressive tune and it'll make 270-280rwkw no drama's!

Ive seen 300rwkw with cams but i believe the motor was built.

Erm a GTRS on 1bar wud kill your motor without afm/injectors :P

I run 276rwhp and on cold nights get up to 94% injector duty cycle!! Pump would of maxed up before then and afm can't stretch much past 300rwhp.

I'd love to see a comparison graph between a 2835 ProS and a GTRS. How much more power does the ProS make and how much more lag?

I like track work the most so the GTRS will be pefecto! hehe

Sounds awesome, so at the moment only thing restricting me to get more power is the turbo. What size injectors would you suggest? i WONT be opening the engine or need more than 270rwkw ever. Also are coilpacks required. ill deff do a fuel pump :P

Nismo 555's will go straight in and be more than up to the task (well on the R33 they do anyway, i can't vouch for R34s)

You don't need coil packs unless yours are stuffed. I had the stockies for over a year, developed a worsening missfire, went for Splitfires and picked up a few kw along the way - so maybe mine weren't quite up to scratch to start with. You have a newer car so hopefully it shouldn't be an issue.

Log on to Nengun/Greenline etc and have fun shopping :)

I've got the 2835 pro s - it's making an honest 261rwkw with cams and everything else the norm but I'm unhappy with the boost levels and tune (again!) Boost wise it goes to 18 psi and fades away to 16 psi up the top. I'd be happier running 22 psi that's where it feels a lot better. I doubt I'll run this sort of boost on the stock bottom end though

I think the only problem with the 2835 pro s is the wastegate opens up past 5000rpm so you can't hold your desired boost. I'm waiting for a datalogic as I want to start tuning myself. Here's a few dyno graphs of the pro s - the 341hp and 261 rwkw runs are both mine 341 hp before cams.

Perhaps it's a restriction somewhere that's causing that boost drop? I mean, I know they are prone to it, but didn't think they were that bad. For example, check out the dyno sheet (and boost) of this R33 GTS-T with stock motor and 2835ProS:

Ps. Fark, that's a pretty average tune from the looks of things!!

I've heard that the turbosmart e boost boost controllers like the guy is using in that link are better than the pfc boost control kit as they are a true bleed style boost controller whereas the power fc one is a on/off solonoid valve. It's probably what I need but after awhile you get a bit sick of spending more and more money. I've tried increasing the pre load on the wastegate spring and it seems to just spike higher earlier on and still fall off. User name Grepin had the same problem with his set-up and went to the extent of changing to the bigger ar exhaust housing and putting a stronger wastegate spring in - didn't fix the problem though.

So there you go - by the looks of it you need to goto a bleed type boost control on the 2835 - it can't be a restriction as it's been the same on two exhausts - I have a 4'' magic cat/new trust 3'' exhaust, large blitz intercooler and clean K&N air filter - have also tried doing a run with out the air filter and no top on the airbox and zilch power/boost difference. I've also pullled out the cat to check - it's fine and the dump is hks and down pipe a well made 3''.

It's hard to compare dyno figures between shops - the quarter mile is ok is spose - I've done a best of 12.7 after 6 runs down the strip but that's with 3 grand launches as suspension wasn't the best and no slicks.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
