definately get one, other than theyre illegal theres no probs with em.

advantages, all the oil blow by vapour doesnt get recycled back into you engine. normally this blow by ends up coating the inlet piping with oil, the vapour also effectively lowers the octane rating of the fuel making the motor prone to detonation

Can get a jap one for around 2-300 or get a custom one like i did for alot less

Hmm

They are good, and worthwhile.

My question is, why do any of you open the bonnet if a cop wants a look.. If you say "NO, not unless you have a search warrant", whats gonna happen. you are entitled to show them nothing under there. Use the law to your advantage.... And plus, make up a story as to what it is... about 1 in 20 cops is really gonna know that its really a catch can. Tell that it is an oil air spearater (other name used for it), and i bet it is not on the list of "illegal" modifications, and if they ask what it does, say "it spearates oil and air, and helps potect the engine".... play dumb because cops are.

If you deny a cops request to pop the bonnet, they have to go get a search warrant....then find you at home/work, and chase you down....You really think they'll bother, then next poor kid with a hotted up Laser TX3 will just pop the bonnet like they asked...

They HAVE to have a search warrant to look under the bonnet. No Buts.

Thats an interesting point you make there SydneyKid

I got pulled over by push bike cops a few months ago.

They told me they are doing an operation in the area and I have to go to the pits.

They issued me with a special piece of paper stating that if I didn't go to the pits imediately then they would cancel my license and rego

I don't know if that piece of paper is a bluff or if they are really able to do that :Q

I have never heard of it... doesn't mean it doesn't exist

Tell them that before you do, you would like to "call your lawyer, and that will take me about an hour, hour and a half"... if they say, go away, then ya free, but if they say, nup, go now, then get out of the car and call the yellow pages or whatever phone number ya call, ask for the nearest lawyer to where you are, get them to patch you through, and tell them what the piece of paper says.....by this time the cops will be extremely pissed... but it is worth finding out, then tell everyone on here that it is a load of BS..... because i know i will if i get that.

I would just show them becuase not doing so would almost definetly result in a cannery.

Back on topic does anyone have anything to add to the following

If you get rid of the PCV system your engine will build up harmfull acidic gases which contaminate the oil reducing engine life.

I know it has happened, but my mate's cortina had a simillar prob, didn't pop it because it was NOSed (was a drag car, then got roaded), so they popped out the book of canary's, and he called his dad ( a barrister ), and gave the phone to the cop... took 10 seconds....

"I'm sorry sir, have a good day"

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
