humz
okay while my 25-30 is being rebuild i thought it would be a good idea to put in a custom sump, with baffles, and a larger volume. i can send it into adelaide and they modify it with a hi-energy sump but its 700bux. i wanted to make my own. anyone have detailed pics of what theirs looks like or any advice in general would be greatly appreciated thanx Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167953-rb-sumps-custom-off-shelf-back-yard-jobs/ Share on other sites

humz
nice sump mate, good to see rb30 in the states (dont forget to tell eveyone where the block cam from got any pics of the baffles also. the rb26 sump would need an extra mod to rid the front shafts- so thats one reason not to. what sorta baffles do they have inside?? also wouldnt the stroke of the 30 hit the standard baffles on the sump?? r33_racer
Funny someone should mention this as im in the process of fabricating an ally dry sump pan at the moment. Different to a normal gated sump with extra capacity, just a very shallow pan with a few valleys for the two pickups for the pump. When i get closer to finishing it ill get a few shots of it and pop em up. At the moment ive only got the flange cut out, and other peoples paying jobs come first unfortunately. R31Nismoid
the rb26 sump would need an extra mod to rid the front shafts- so thats one reason not to.what sorta baffles do they have inside?? also wouldnt the stroke of the 30 hit the standard baffles on the sump?? Not sure about the stroke, someone will know that Yeah, its no big drama to remove the front diff. Mine was done in that manner. When 350-400rwkw GTRs run around here in melb with the stock sump on semi's... That kinda tells me the stock sump works quite well and would be good for 99% of setups out there Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167953-rb-sumps-custom-off-shelf-back-yard-jobs/#findComment-3110761 Share on other sites
Adriano
Rb30 crank clears the rb26 sump, as there is an adapter plate between the block and the sump, which spaces it away. Nice sump Sayajin, looks exactly the same as mine that im making, just need the oil pickup Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/167953-rb-sumps-custom-off-shelf-back-yard-jobs/#findComment-3111875 Share on other sites

Risking
Im with Nismoid. Why bother with a big dollar or even custom sump when the OEM item with the diff removed and baffles fitted with sufice perfectly. If you fit an oil cooler you have increased the volume slightly and honestly if your going all out ditch the sump and use a dry set-up straight up. Greg's S15 with the RB26 fitted runs a factory sump and has no issues whats so ever and Id garantee it takes a lot more circuit abuse than 90% of the other cars getting around. Omurru
From cubes DOHC guide: Grind off the RB20/25/26 fins towards the back of the sump, the rb30 crank and rods have a longer throw and will foul. The RB30 sump has no clearance issues in the R32/33 Skylines. My car has the standard RB26 sump with a tomei sump baffle in it and no issues to date what so ever with oil pickup. Have included some random pics I have on my computer of a custom sump for an RB, I like the design of this one.... Risking
Dave you have any form of aftermarket sump baffles fitted??? We run tomei baffles in all of out RB26's and never have any problem with surging. Ive got guage in my GTR and after 100's of wakfield laps, oran park and eastern creek laps Ive not once seen a fluctuation in oil pressure. I usualy over fill by a litre anyways but only because the thing still leaks out the crank seal when it gets really hot. Risking
I gave up on the leaks. Just let them go. Only leaks out the Crank seal after a few hard laps when the oil thins out and everything gets really hot so meh.
