hmmm my computer is super old now.

i got the first SLi motorboard out with the nforce4 chipset and a socket 939 athlon. Now the socket is obsolete, so if i want to upgrade, it's new CPU, motherboard, RAM as a minimum! unless i can find an old socket 939 athlon but it's not really worth the money.

I was trying to find another Socket 939 instead of buying a whole new system and the prrices they were asking were stupid... I wanted a 4800+ x2... So i thought f**k it i'll just buy a whole new system... Sold my existing one... Well its getting picked up this sunday but since i just blew a heap of cash on a new turbo AND brand new bee-r rev limiter im gonna be computerless untill i get the funds again to get this beast...

Good thing is it will only be costing me ~$2800 now with all the same specs

I've got a DELL Inspiron 9400 laptop

2.0 GHz Duo Core 2 T7200

Geforce Go 6800 Ultra 256mb

2gb 667 MHz ram

120gb 7200 RPM HDD

goes pretty well but with the release of all these new games that I dloaded in the past week such as ArmA, Call of Duty 2, C&C 3, Dark Messiah etc. its pretty well outdated when you crank up the video quality settings so I built a new desktop on monday and so far im very happy with it, especially the 8800 GTX it really hammers anything thrown at it.

My Gaming Desktop:

2.66 ghz E6700 Intel Duo Core 2 (planning on upgrading to Quad Core Extreme QX6800 once available in AU)

Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb (ASUS)

4 gb 667mhz Kingston Ram

2 x 500 GB 7200 RPM Baracuda HDDs

Asus mainboard with all the goodies such as SLI and Quad Core support (even 8 core support but I don't think such processor exists yet)

Thermaltake Full Tower aluminium case (8800 GTX can't really fit in anything smaller then full tower)

Audigy sound card

... and all the other shit that doesn't really make much difference

So far my main test was absolutely maxing out Oblivion video quality settings and it goes very smooth and never skips a frame, whereas my laptop was very choppy. The price difference between a 8800 GTS and a GTX of merely $300 or so is well worth it I recon as its apparently 30% faster.

Doesnt increasing the FSB do the same thing as oc'ing the CPU??

and wouldnt an ATItool only work on ATI vcards??

IDK just asking... u have an awesome system.. if i had that kinda spare cash... well no id probably buy shares.. but still.. u have an awesome system none the less im sure u love ur video games.

EDIT spelling

This is what im currently building... taking a while due to the outright costs of the hardware. I only have a couple of the HDDs and most of the RAM so far.

CPU: DUAL Q6600 (Core 2 Quad) (if possible and they come down in price later in the year when im down to the final parts... DUAL 6700s...)

Mobo: Undecided as yet... trying to find one to suit my needs ie. can run dual quad cores as well as have enough PCI slots for HD Tuner and Sound etc

RAM: 16GB A-DATA 800 (will upgrade to more later)

GFX: Dual 768MB 8800Ultra Leadtek cards running SLi

HDD: 2 x 750GB Seagate SATAs running in Raid, 2 x 500 GB Seagate SATA drives

Case: Zalman Fatal1ty FC-ZE1 Case

Cooling: Zalman Reserator 2 Noiseless Water Cooling

And the usual other crap...

Will probably take me about a year to build it cause the case and water cooling alone will be around 1k as will the RAM... the motherboard will probably be the hardest to source as most server motherboards dont have enough of the right type of expansion ports and cost and arm and a leg. But i reckon it will be worth it onces its together and i shouldnt have to upgrade for quite some time...

/\/\/\ OMG im getting a hard on with those specs!! 16GB of RAM!?!?! :)

I only use my PC for burning and surfing and it flys, but its because ive not many programs, wouldnt even be able to run a 1/2 decent game from 5 years ago tho

P4 2.2ghz

1.5gb ram

120gb hdd, 250gb hdd

2 x Pioneer burners

Thats about it  onboard video and sound.

I think when Spore comes out ill upgrade my PC then.

Have they NASA outsourced their super computers or something?

Seriously though lol... What with this TITAN be used for?

lol

will mainly be used for gaming... but also as a HTPC

im just sick of having to upgrade my shitty old pc every year or 2. With this i wont have to upgrade for, im hoping, 5 years... and even then i wont have to upgrade much. Most of the mobos i looked at with Dual CPU capabilities also had around 10-24 slots for RAM, so more RAM wont be an issue. Even the vid cards should be good enough for sometime. Mind you, who knows whats going to happen with the tech in the next few years. Be pretty pissed off if it is completely obsolete by then tho haha

16GB isnt a huge deal these days... my uncles G5 has 32GB

mind u he probably needs it more as he does graphic design.

i will be mucking around a lot with home movies and stuff which is quite resource hungry...

lol well its the extra wide screen lens i have to use to get all of me in the picture when side on in the cock out scenes :P

no u fool... we have a child on the way and im going to be one of those dads that videos EVERYTHING lol

plus if i get myself into another car and join the club again and start coming on cruises i'll be bring cameras and mounts and stuff for footage.

Congrats are in order my friend!!!

I can see it now, your going to have cameras in every corner taping every moment for golden moments :)

man i dont want to be a downer, but you are building a beast for the wrong reasons. This gear WILL be obsolete in 5 years for the following reasons:

- DX11 will be out

- DDR2 RAM will be so rare, it'll be too expensive to get enough in your machine

- CPU micro-architectures will have progressed so far that your Core 2's will look ancient

- you will not be able to buy big enough hard drives in SATA II form factor, as a new protocol will have taken the lead.

History shows that building a mid-range system every 2 years or so give the best bang-for-buck. If you had built a "beast" 5 years ago, it would have looked something like:

- P4 2.5 GHz

- GeForce 4 4600

- 1GB DDR1-333Mhz

- maybe JUST a USB2 capable mobo

not very exciting eh?

For gaming, 8 cores are just a joke. No current game will have any performance improvement between 2 and 8 cores. How long do you want to wait before the other 6 cores actually play a role? Better to stick with what works here and now and make a $$$ saving of ~80%.

For HTPC, 8 cores and 16GB is OMFG-WTF-so-far-over-the-top-it's-rediculous arangement! Just how much power does it take to run a (worst case) 1080p PVR? Certainly not that much.

Good reasons to build a beast would include:

- you actually run apps that require it i.e. HD video NLE, 3d rendering etc.

- it's going to be a busy server

- you want braging rights

Each to their own however....Good luck if you decide to follow it through.

Well i guess i could go with bragging rights then lol

But like i said... with something like that built how hard would it be to make minor upgrades to keep up? where as i havent upgraded my current PC for about 3 years and EVERYTHING needs to be binned (well... used as a server i spose).

So rather then having something mid range constantly i could spend probably the same amount on it to keep it kicking arse... well maybe spending a little more... but its hardly going to break the bank

just built my brothers computer last night.

He got a

dual core intel 2.4 ghtz

2 gig of ddr2 800 RAM

320 mb geforce 8800GTS

250 gig 16mb cache sata drive

asus sli motherboard with the 950i chipset (really good chipset from what i've seen so far)

And the computer is pretty damn good espicially for under 1400 bucks.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
