Anything that changes emissions (FMIC, turbo back exhaust, ECU, turbo etc ) has to pass the emissions test and be engineered as it was passed. Only if you have a catback exhaust with no FMIC can you just use the DB test to engineer the exhaust. All exhausts have to do the DB test to be engineered. Can you tell I have extensively looked into this......lol!

So if you detune your car to pass emissions due to aftermarket ECU... get a pass.. get it engineered... then change the tune.. its not valid. Once they stick the gas analyser up the exhaust you are going to get raped over the coals. Also if its something with a controller.. the tune/ecu... boost, etc it needs to be locked and the controller removed from the cabin in order to meet the engineers certificate. Although not sure how often that kind of stuff gets picked on???

To engineer coilovers.. the engineer must set the coilovers to the minimum height (100mm @ lowest point) and then destroy all the thread underneath so as you can't lower it once its been passed and recorded on the certificate.

FMIC still need to be passed (ie installed when test was done and not after) EPA but also the REO can't be cut, nor the hole in the guard be below the structual seam. I never thought that they checked this until a friend got pulled over the other day and they actually got on the ground and looked under the front bar to see if the REO had been cut in any way!

Pods... as long as its enclosed completely they are ok... although Moanie's post is a lil worrying! I asked the RTA directly at the inspection station as well as my engineer and was given the ok????? Unless the rules have changed in the last 2 months? Mine is listed on my engineers certificate only because it was the only thing not on there they might have tried to pick on!

I believe i was taken to court by the EPA, only because I was a repeat offender. Don't see why they would do that if you had an engineers cert! Wuld be worthless if they did!

And damn! alot of research! I need to look into engineering mine now! *sigh* so many expenses!

Mona theres a guy in peakhurt who does engineering and is really good.

Search button doesnt work for you or what?

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/index.cg...FormButton.y=12

DIF, I did use RTA search and yes I did find that. That is the REASON why I made this post to clear things up.

yeah dont worry about it man... your thread just seemd to be the climax of some shit thats been waiting to drop...

i dont think anyone meant to scare you >_<

and dont be afraid to come back either :)

Not being a bish or trying to start anything Liz, but isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? >_< I can recall many times you have done exactly the same thing. Everytime someone asks a question that has been asked may times they get the same "use the search button" off any number of different people - why is this time any different?

The guy mentioned he searched SAU (not well as this was brought up less than a week ago)... doesn't look like he searched RTA site too well either... Corinne provided a link to answer his question. Soooo as far as I can see... she actually provided RTA rulings and not just hearsay. Smoky had the answer correct and Corinne showed the guy where to find the demerits on the RTA website to confirm Smoky's post. If she was being rude there would be no link.... just a "use the search function".

Just my 2 cents.

PPL FFS! I freaking searched both sites alright. Reason I made this post is because I am paranoid about losing any points, I have 2 more months to go before I get all my points back so I dont want to risk it. Plz note, one of the guys I spoke to about this was telling me how he LOST his 3 points cos of the pod defect and now he only has 1 point left etc etc. So the first thing I did was search RTA and SAU was second. I dont give 2 toss about the fine as long as I dont lose any points.

hi mate.. have you been defected already and your not sure if you lost the points?

or you are just worried about being defected and then losing points?

hi Sl!m,

I havent been defected. I am not worried about getting defected, to be honest with you...if the defect fine for having a pod was well over $500 I wouldnt care less but losing points is what worries me.

I am on a limited amount of points atm >_< so thats my major concern.

I search RTA and SAU, RTA said nothing about a fine and SAU basically talked about a defect fine. From what I was told at the Toyo Drags, this thing only came in recently and the group of guys I was sitting with all agreeded when one of the guys outlined that defects will cost u points now.

I was hoping to find something on RTA which actually outlined that having a pod is a defect and wont cost u a demerit point.

I know what you mean its a awesome noise, How good are you at fabricating ?

Or know anyone that is?

I only recently starting playing with fibre glass when I restored my boat so I guess I am not too bad. A mate of mine today told me that "WestSide Mufflers/Exhaust?" near bankstown actually sell premade airbox for pod setups so I might check that out before doing anything else. The price was reasonable too...I think it was about the $80 mark.

ok cool, thats all I wasnt sure about. wether or not you have already been defected and wanted to know if points were to also be taken (or really given as you pick up points you dont really lose them, once you gain a certain amount, then you lose your licence) or if you wanted to know if it happens in the future will the points on ur licence be affected.. now that that is cleared up.. lol

Your best bet would be to send an email to the RTA, they have contacts section and ask them the question, also ask them for links to prove the information as some times it can be contradicting.

But I think Smoky or Corinne answered the question in here, but getting the answer from RTA wouldnt hurt.

cheers

Oh well there you go >_<

Thats a pretty good price and I still think you would get the induction noise just not as loud maybe...but better to be safe then sorry :)

if you can get a airbox for $80 go for it.. I have a custom one myself, and you dont lose the induction noise just becomes a little bit quieter. >_<

just check that it all lines up.. after market pods etc are not all the same, so whatever they measured to pre make it, may not be the same as what you have under your bonnet :)

no points - well unless its one of the 3 listed below.

There are 3 which can receive points straight away - defective seats, steering, & seatbelts.... all with good cause too!

Sorry .. Does steering include a aftermarket steering wheel? I.E no air bag?

    • There are several aftermarket options available, from not-too-painful moneyhttps://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35 and  https://justjap.com/products/crank-motorsport-billet-rear-axles-fits-nissan-skyline-r33-gts-t-r34-gt-t?srsltid=AfmBOorQk4xkGUa98kO7v2ePLUiNt-HRrM2AwWNw9mbSIVE1ujBVwY__, all the way up to The Driveshaft Shop https://driveshaftshop.com/skyline-cv-axles/
    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
    • Yeeeppp, been following a lot of the testing on the latest Xona stuff and there are some mental results.  He also went over 1000hp @ 4 hubs on his Mainline with a XRE6364S (63mm) which was also well into the 20psi range before 4000rpm on a 2.5. Crazy stuff. Fwiw the XRE5964S is basically the modern equivalent of their old HTA3582 - would drive nicely enough on an RB25 or 26, but proven capable of a huge amount of power if you want to spicy with rpm tho even at sane boost levels will make stout numbers
    • The axels in my R33 seem tired, and have a bit of play in them. I cannot find any new of course, not interested in buying used, but I am looking to see if anyone can identify some cross compatible axles. In the states I have seen suggested for S chassis the J30 axles, however for the skyline (as best I can tell) the lengths are about an inch off (2.5cm) on both sides. R33 my measure L 22" R 24.5" GPT L 22.5" 24.25" J30 L 23.5" 25.5"  so shaft length is probably an inch wider. Not sure if someone has another still remanufactured option besides the J30. I figured worst case I can buy a pair tear them down and swap the center shaft. My other option was reaching out to GSP to see if they cannot piece together a set, since the axle stubs are still manufactured, I wouldn't think it be that hard to find a shaft or make a shaft work.
